Rating: Summary: ORIGINAL SIN CITY IS ONE OF THE BEST Review: The first SIN CITYgraphic novel is one of the best, Miller gives us an antisocial brute named Marv as his protagonist and actually makes him interesting. The violene ,though bizarre attimes,is well staged and not merely there to shock us.He also uses his first novel in the series to set Basin city up as an iconic place; I see it as literally being a city of sin or hell on earth so very little of what conventionally would be called good would exist there. Sometimes Miller stretches the iconic nature of his milieu and it degenerates into nihilsm as in BIG FAT KILL but this book avoids that. It is both reasonable that Marv gets revenge and is punished for his vigilantism which lacks the heroic elements that Hartigan and Wallace display in later SIN CITY novels. A GREAT COMICS NOVEL!
Rating: Summary: A very good read. Review: The story may not be too complex but the execution is killer :)
Everything from the darkness to the violence to the amazing art work makes this a must read graphical novel. You should probably read this before the movie comes out (April 1st 2005) so buy it!
I assure you.. you won't be disappointed. may not be suitable for the faint of heart or those who are easy offended.. (lighten up if you are :) )
Rating: Summary: NEW AGE CRIME NOVEL.READ THIS BOOK, YOU WILL THANK ME LATER! Review: the town of sin city is an unforgiving town in which anything can and will happen. From the first page you are intrigued by what is going on, and it keeps you wanting to continue reading the story. It is told in black and white comic book format but do not let that discourage you from reading or even buying this book. The unique style of Frank Miller tears you into this world of hate and revenge and makes you feel for the main character Marv. It is a classic revenge story told in a new way, in which a criminal uses his "skills" to get done what needs to get done. The characters are living, breathing people and you want them to suceed in thier goals. This book will knock your socks off.
Rating: Summary: F. Miller's noir tales of the town without pity begin here. Review: There's a big ugly guy and a dame that smells like angels ought to smell,
in a lousy room in a lousy part of a lousy town. But that room becomes
heaven and that dame's the perfect woman. The goddess. Goldie. A guy like
Marv, big and ugly, he doesn't get a whole bunch of chances with dames like
Goldie. So when he wakes up three hours later and someone's killed his
goddess, he figures he'll find that someone and return the favor. But it
won't be quick and quiet, the way it was with Goldie. It'll be loud and
nasty.
Rating: Summary: Did I miss something? Review: This book won awards? Did I miss something? Sure, the black and white art is incredible. And there is a central mystery that is intriguing. But where is the subtlety in the storyline? It's one bloody fight scene after another. Frank Miller has come a long way from his days of the Dark Knight, Daredevil, and Ronin, and it hasn't always been an improvement. Where is the scintillating dialogue and complex storytelling that marked his early career? I measure a comic's success by whether I want to back to re-read it. I've only read Sin City once, and it's been sitting on my shelf collecting dust a long time
Rating: Summary: It's Miller time! Review: This is an absolutely fantastic black and white graphic novel by Frank Miller, who helped revitalize the superhero genre with his versions of Batman and Daredevil. Sin City might be described as "film noir", except for the fact that it isn't a film, it's a comic book. But it soon will be a film! Frank Miller himself has co-directed the film with Robert Rodriguez, so there is a good chance it will be faithful to the comic book. The film adapts more than one of the Sin City graphic novels, but I thought people might like to know who plays the characters from this particular book:
Mickey Rourke plays Marv.
Jaime King plays Goldie.
Carla Gugino plays Lucille.
Jessica Alba plays Nancy.
Elijah Wood plays Kevin.
Rosario Dawson plays Gail.
Rutger Hauer plays Roark.
Rating: Summary: Masterpiece Review: This is by far one of my All time favorite Frank Miller books. The art is dark and it fits the story VERY well! The story might be very "old school" and revenge driven, but he has done it only the way Frank can do it. It is told in a very dark and grim way , is there any other way to tell a story like this? I find this book easily able to be read again and again. Simply breathtaking!

Rating: Summary: The Best Volume in the Sin City series Review: This is the first and best volume in the series. Great, stark, black & white artwork. The rest of the series are okay, but Miller doesn't seem to really put the effort into them as he has done with this yarn. Miller must not have done a lot of preliminary sketches for Sin City because you can see the visualization of Marv, the title character evolve as the story progresses. He becomes more massive and Hulk-ish and the violence increases. Miller did the same thing with THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. THe visual image of the character seems to be fleshed out as the story goes on. I think this shows the lack of drawing preparation on Miller's part. Not important to the story, but I find it interesting to point out. ~john
Rating: Summary: There is nothing not to like about this story. Review: This story involves major character development. Marv is character you will get to know & understand. I think that is something not very well done with most main characters in stories. Marv reveals & deals with his personal problems throughout the story. You have to like Marv, he has his own morals and his own way to live his life. He does what he knows how to do. He uses what he can to get what has to get done, done. He's not the brightest brick on the wall but, he is harder than the rest. Willing to put it all on the line in the name of love and, finding out the sad truth about the one he loved through it all. Marv is ruthless & on a mission that can only end one way. The villains are slick, evil, and and smarter than Marv but, even that won't stop him. Marv is a character that is running on pure emotion and, Sin City is the dark, corrupt, and extremely evil place he calls home. This book is Well worth your dollars. Unless you only want to read about Super heroes who fly and wear goofy outfits and fight super villains who are bound to lose eventually. Sin City is not your average comic book or graphic novel or whatever you want to call them. Sin City is dark place full of characters who will get your attention no matter how much you hate or love what they're about.
