Summary: this sucks balls
Review: I would never own a book by Janrae Frank. She thinks she is one of the elite but this book is one that I will never own -- I never liked her from the beginning and the reviews she did of my work were on the level of personal attacks. So in this I will say that Janrae Frank is worst than a has been, she was a never was. I won't even shell out the money to buy this used or even borrow it in the library. If she wants to lead a book burning of my work, fine, I guess I will say this of her. She will never be remembered as an author. Even though the "career" she spands 26 plus years. A few from my correspondence circles will agree with me on this one and they also have bad blood with her.

Summary: Great collection of dark fantasy tales
Review: My name is Kyle R. Kucek, and I am a horror/supernatural author who recently ordered this book... and loved it.

Janrae Frank is a very talented author. After reading a few of her stories I realized she accomplished many great things in her writing genre. After reading even more of her stories and editorials I began to admire her work even more.

"In The Darkness, Hunting" tells of a female warrior, Chimquar the Lionhawk, who is often mistaken for a man. Each story tells many different things, and you have to read each one to truly understand Chimquar's well-developed character. Janrae manages to blend great detail and atmosphere in with a captivating plot and amazing characters. I'm just amazed at what she accomplished with all of this.

Overall a wonderful collection of fantasy. You have to pick this up in order to really understand how great this author's work is.

Summary: The collection is great, now let's have some more!
Review: This collection contains Frank's Chimquar stories. These stories started appearing in the 1970s. The stories are arranged almost as a novel, following the story of Chimquar the Lionhawk, making her way in a self-imposed - mostly - exile from her homeland. She is a warrior-woman in a land where such is forbidden on penalty of death. But she needs to be where she is and so she learns to hide who and what she is as well as finding herself. These stories are sword and sorcery at their best. Frank's writing is lean and to the point, just what such tales as she weaves deserve. In the afterword there is mention of a novel continuing the story and I hope to see it soon.
