Rating: Summary: Great mix of science fiction, science, mythology. Review: A gal from our time travels back to first century BC during the rule of Octavian, adopted son of Julius Caesar. It's rustic. But she's hardy and somewhat comical in her perspectives. My favorite character was Nezora. For those who liked Lucy Lawless as an evil Xena, you will know why. Also recommend Heir to the Empire, (Star Wars), most all of Isaac Asimov novels, and The further adventures of Xena.
Rating: Summary: Ann Marie Tempesta's "Damsel in the Rough" is wonderful! Review: Although I'm not normally a fan of science fiction fantasy type writing this book seemed to attach itself almostly magically to my hand and has held my attention since. Tempesta's complex characters, scapel-sharpe wit and wonderful allusions are guaranteed to have you begging for more. The theme centers around Tasha Fidelli whose abrupt journey into the ancient Roman Empire is wonderfully told. Tempesta's sharp wit and imagination shows through on each page leaving the reader anxiously awaiting the next. "Damsel in the Rough" is flled with fantastic patterns of events following Tasha's transportation via Zeus's wrath to the lands of Gods, Amazons, and Greeks. It is compellingly told and should climb to the top of the literary world. I can hardly wait for the sequel.
Rating: Summary: Spinning Tale of Wild Adventure with Sassy Humor! Review: Brooklyn girl, Tasha Fidelli, uses her wits and a whole lot of spunk to find her way home from Ancient Greece. Her journey, not a matter of distance as much as time, forces Tasha searching for a way back from the days of gods, Amazons and the Roman Empire. I could not put the book down. I loved stories with mythology and adventure and Ms. Tempesta certainly delivered! It's refreshing to read about a heroine using her inner strength and instincts to save herself. Excellent read.
Rating: Summary: An Original Adventure Review: Damsel in the Rough was one of the most original adventure books I've read in a long time. Tasha, the heroine, seems like a normal Brooklyn college student at the beginning. But soon she is having encounters with gods and goddesses--and is in ancient Greece, herself! As the book winds along, Tasha rises to meet challenge after challenge; and she meets various friends and foes along the way as she has one breath-taking adventure after another. The only complaint I had was that once it was over, I felt the story cried out for an immediate sequel!
Rating: Summary: Refreshingly different. Review: Distinct and affecting characters. Unlike many adventure fiction tales, this novel pays homage to the spirit of survival, the spirit of will that is not always so perfect and superhuman. Our family enjoys Tasha Fidelli and hope to see a sequel soon.
Rating: Summary: Good fantasy fun Review: Good fun timetravel book. :) Fun Adventure Mystery.. plot did not go as expected or end as I thought.. and that is a good thing..;) Xena, meets Evil Dead.. plus mystery, romance and fun. Good summer read.. or anytime.... Good job.. looking forward to a sequal. ;)
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: I stepped in to buy, thinking this was a chancy sci-fi story by an unknown. (What the hell purchase.) To my surprise, this book was terrific! A woman from New York gets shipped to the past in the early part of the Roman Empire. Her goals? To get back to New York and the future, a.s.a.p. But she soon finds that trick is one the gods are not easily providing access. She hunts for alternate ways, including a time-travel port created by the US Government. That's when the best adventures begin, including those with wandering tribes of Amazons.
Slip into the story and soon the adventure will take you on a terrific series of creative adventures. Well-written, action packed, funny, and imaginative. Top of my list for sci-fi, fantasy reading this year.
Rating: Summary: Needs a better title, story is great! Review: I'd like to meet the twisted mind that created this story! Just when I thought I knew what might be coming around the bend, a new and believable direction unfolded. I read all four hundred and odd pages in one night. Tight action and surprises. Me feeling surprised is not a common experience. For those who purchase this book, expect light drama, hard action mixed with believable characters and well placed insertions of humor.
Rating: Summary: This story rocks! A++++++ Terrific! Review: Our dorm keeps a few "special" books to share with peers. When I got to this one, a bit on the ratty side, I didn't know what the publisher's write-up was talking about. This is a tightly written time-travel adventure based around a nutty character named Tasha Malone Fideli. Good for thousand chuckles, and then some. You're going to love her, or as they say in New Yorkish style, luv ha!
Rating: Summary: Hilarious, exciting, brilliant. Review: Take a strong spirit from our times and plant her in the midst of early Roman chaos. An adventure, murder mystery, and science fiction novel. My favorite part was a dire hunt/chase. T.M. Fidelli, a New Yorker in Zeus' time. Also recommend: Naked In Death by J. D. Robb, Wailing Wind by Tony Hillerman, and Burn Marks by Sara Paretsky
