Summary: Great book.
Review: I first read this book back when I was young enough to have survived through the plague, and I've re-read it four or five times since. I'd reccomend it to all kids (and to all who had the misfortune of not reading it when they were kids) as a wonderful, fast paced book they're able to relate to, not to mention being a great book in its own right.

When I read it for the first time, the book had me daydreaming for weeks about what I would do if the world today were thrown into the same situation, and what I would do to survive. I think I even had plans made out for what I'd do in the rather unlikely event such a plague that struck the world in _The Girl That Owned a City_ happened for real. The characters of the books were my heroes. Ah, nostalgia. I think I'm going to go reread the book again now, in fact-- it's been far too long since I've last done so.

Review: I read this book, and I loved it! It is probably one of the top ten books on my list! I would definitely recommend this book (more so for girls 12+) I think it is great for discussion, and hard to place yourself in the book. The characters really come alive in this book, and there are many surprises. I would not recommend reading the back of this book, because it really gives it away. It is fun to find all the surprises. This book is so good, I couldn't put it down!

Summary: Great book, but bad ending
Review: This book, for the most part, was very good. The story was very creative. Serriously.. what would YOU do without adults if you were a kid? Secondly, the book kept you wondering what will happen next. One event after another, I kept asking myself, "What will happen hext?". I finished this book in 3 days! I never wanted to put it down! I loved some of the creative ideas. The one thing that needed improvement was the ending... Not only was the ending comfusing, but it left you out there wondering why the author put some of the details in the story if he wasn't going to use them later. In general, it would have been a more exciting book if it not had been so peaceful as it really was... i'm not giving anything more away.. hope this review helps!

Review: This book is about plague that kills everyone that is older than twelve. All the parents are dead and all the kids have to fend for themselves. The main character's name is Lisa. Her little brother's name is Todd. Lisa has to organize a militia so that the other gangs don't take their food and other supplies. There is a lot of fighting in this book.

I liked this book and I hadn't read a book since third grade. This is a must read for everyone.

Review: (I had to write a book report on The Girl Who Owned a City, so here it is below):

A plague sweeps the world killing people age 13 and over. Now Lisa, 10 years old and her little brother Toddy-boy, 5 years old, must survive with little food and by fending off violent gangs. Lisa forms a militia containing all the kids that live on Grand Avenue. They prepare defenses and get ready to face some tough gangs.

I know this report isent much of anything but its a basic summary. I read this book when i was 7. I lovd it, it took me only about a week to read, and i dont think i will ever forget the plot or characters, ever. This book is probably better, in my opinion, than the 4 Harry Potter Books. (I cant wait till the movie ^.6) I totally recomend this book from grade 3+. You might think i am crazy, but this is a really creative imaginitive novel. THe violence in the story, hmm... Well it was hard to picture the violence in you mind, boy would i hate to be the chidester gang leader... owwww!

Summary: You Go Girl
Review: The first time I wrote this was in the 6 grade, now I'm in the 11 grade, and it's still "stuck to me". The book gave you a sence of adventure to a 12 year old mind (and still does for this 17 year old.) and said "Yes girls can do it at any age!"
And in my opion that could happen tomarrow. That would be scary though, a illness kills off all those who know how to work things, "keep the peace", and not let anything go to hello...
And Anarchy would happen and through that a leader would be born; good or bad.

Summary: TGWOAC has allusions to the Russian Revolution/Animal Farm.
Review: In The Girl Who Owned a City, Lisa has a book locked away in the tower wall of Glenbard. The book helps her run the city. I think the book that Lisa has locked away behind a panel in the tower chamber is George Orwell's Animal Farm. I think that it is Animal Farm because the animals decide to start a city in which there is one leader pig, Napoleon, who "owns" the city. This leader pig, Napoleon, represents Lisa. In reality, Napoleon represented Stalin. Napoleon and Lisa are alike because he comes up with a set of rules and a defense system for his city just like Lisa did for Glenbard. The pigs and their other four-legged comrades decide that any thing with two legs is evil. Their hatred towards two legged things is similar to the residents of Glenbard's hatred of the gangs. The pig that supposedly tries to repeatedly overthrow Napoleon and ruin Animal Farm after he (the pig that supposedly tries to overthrow Napoleon) is exiled, Snowball, is representative of Tom Logan because Tom tries to overthrow Lisa, although his plan is thwarted. Snowball actually represented Lenin's role in the Russian Revolution. The horse in Animal Farm, Boxer, represents all the citizens of Glenbard because all Boxer does is work and all the citizens do is work. Boxer represented the downtrodden Russian people because all they did was work and neither Boxer or the Russian people saw outcomes benefiting them. Another thing is that the language used in Animal Farm is very simple, so a fifth grader could understand the literal meaning of it and use it to run a city. Animal Farm has many similarities towards The Girl Who Owned a City.

Summary: WHAT!? NO SEQUEL?
Review: A review, but first! Allow me to repeat myself: What!? No sequel?
This book shows people what could really happen if a plague like this would actually sweep the countryside. I absolutely adore the fact that it has to do with children, not adults in a summary like: An asteroid hits earth, leaving us as cavemen once again, where strength rules all (and adults beat on kids once again) This story shows so much thought and intelligence, it IS true that if you really put your mind to it, it may actually work. And it IS true that this could all happen (not that we want it to) you remember all the details about Lisa, her brother, her militia, the King of Chicago, everything. And then comes the greatest shock of all: this was written before I was born! Arggh!
This is a great edition for a personal library for children and adults alike. It doesn't take much thought to understand it. Read on! Now, excuse me while I go annoy my Dad into reading it.
