Summary: A conflict of loyalties
Review: Scott St. Andrew is a cadet in the elite South Point Military Academy where he is training to become an officer in the Seven Systems Guard Corps. Scott and his brother Jarrett entered the academy to escape the mines on their home colony of Gatewood-Callista, but Scott is a gennyboy (someone with a genetic defect) and is considered unworthy to be there by many of the other cadets.

When war breaks out between the Earth Alliances and the colonies, choices have to be made, but Scott believes whole heartedly in the Code and does not want to break it even to support the colony that is his homeworld. Circumstances overtake him however, and he is forced to undergo the Racinian conditioning three years ahead of schedule so that he can fight in the war.

When Exeter is invaded and the academy taken, Scott and a number of other cadets make a break for it. In the process, many of them are killed but Scott, Paul, Halitov and others steal a ship and escape. Upon landing at a base on a far colony, Scott is summarily promoted to 2nd lieutenant and thrown into the deep. He is given troops and a mission to perform, which he does despite a mutiny. Then he is promoted again! Scott is bewildered. One year on from joining the academy, he is a captain and leading men into battle despite his fears and insecurities.

This is an action packed and fast paced book. A little too fast in my opinion. From cadet to captain in less than a year? The book felt very rushed... good, but rushed. This one has more action within its pages than perhaps three normal books and the promotion thing stretches believability too far.

If you can ignore the tempo of promotions, which you can if you like mil sci-fi as much as I do, you will fing this one well worth buying. :¬)

Summary: Brothers In Arms
Review: Scott St.Andrew, wants to be an officer to get rid of the bias attached with a birthmark.Slower than all, weaker than all, but allmost the smartest, he must take on overwhelming odds and team up with his worst enemy at the acadamy just to make it through it.

I am an avid SciFi Military reader. I could not put this book down. I could barely wait to turn the pages. This author writes as good as David Feintuch, Orson Scott Card and David Sherman and Dan Cragg. the ending was slightly disappointing as there were a lot of unanswered questions, but a sequel should be underway. If you like action and adventure, read this book!

Summary: Forces of war
Review: Take a young man with a genetic defect, less than one year's training as an officer, and throw him in the deep-end. It sounds like the plot of a novel in Bujold's "Vorkosigan" series, but it is the start of an interesting series (what looks to be a trilogy) of books. Our hero, feeling guilty over the death of his brother and a number of his squad-mates (who die in a terrible accident), Scott St. Andrew must find a way to survive the many decisions which face any officer in a civil war. In a universe where technology has forced humanity to face the brutality of war first hand, one person's actions may change the course of freedom.

Summary: Could have been great
Review: The book was great up to the end. Then it just ended leaving me (the reader) hanging. This is something I find very annoying in a book. If he left it open for another book then he should have had it done or almost done before releasing this one. If this was to be a stand alone book it should have had a soild ending. It didn't.

Summary: A fun story
Review: The story's focus is a colonist Scott St. Andrew. His ticket off his home planet is the elite South Point Military Academy on the moon Exeter. Of course, it is a place with a grueling training program that is unforgiving. The academy is similiar to other military style settings; the additional difficulty "Mr. St. Andrew's" faces is a blend of racism and social outcast status. He is cruelly treated by other cadets due to his rare gentic defect. The book is about Scott finding value in doing his duty and becoming an officer in the Guard Corps of the Terran Alliance. He is a target of ridicule and hazing by his classmates. The story blends Scott's struggle with the eruption of an orginized colonial rebellion against the Alliance. Cadet St. Andrew is faced with picking sides as various loyalities pull on him.

I liked the story and the character development. Most of the people introduced into the story are killed off during conflict, which I find refreshing for a change. The ending was concluded a touch to quickly for my taste but the author set the stage for a follow up novel.

As a side note, the binding on my book and others I have seen is slightly sub-par.

Summary: A Must Read
Review: This book deals with the life of one Scott St. Andrew during
his training at the Elite South Point Military Academy and the
start of hostilities between The Alliances and the Colony worlds.
It has great character development and you really feel for the
characters and thier own weaknesses; and most of the characters are killed off during the book. This brings the effects of combat on the individual soldier to life. This book and its
sequel, which will come out in the spring next year will grab you
and not let you go.

Summary: Brothers In Arms
Review: This book is a science fiction book. It is fast pace, and I promise that you won't be able to put it down. A book for young adults along with SF and action/adventure buffs.

It has a little bit of every thing.....fighting, suspense, mystery, etc., etc. My favorite parts are when they fight. The story has a believable and realistic, not to mention futuristic, plot. I also feel that it would probably make for a good movie too.Trust me, this novel is worth your time and money.

The theme is that Scott St. Andrew joins the South Ponit Cadet Academy. He is last in his squad at almost everything, and everyone is fed up with him. All of a sudden the colonies finally rise up against the alliance. The cadets are forced to choose between the alliance, or the colonies. Scott and his bro join the colonies, and go under an alien conditioning program. When something goes wrong...Scotts brother is killed. Thrown into combat not fully trained, to face his enemies.

Summary: Brothers In Arms
Review: This is the greatest book of our time. Ben Weaver is truly a great author and I look forward to the sequel. If you haven't read this book I suggest you do. I have read alot of good books in my life but if I looked hard enough I could find something wrong with them. Not this one. It is perfect. I didn't get bored reading it. I couldn't put it down. Which surprised me. I usually get tired of reading after no more than an hour. You don't know me so you can't know that I'm telling the truth but I very rarely give any book or author compliments. If I think it's the best I've read than it must be at least an exceptionally good read.

Summary: Wonderful, Fast-Paced Read
Review: Though generally not a Sci-Fi reader, I had found this book a very enjoyable read.

While the end had left me wanting to know more, the storyline is a worthwhile coming of age story.

Coming of age? you say.

Yes. For while Scott St. Andrew was an "adult" when he entered the academy, he came of age at the outbreak of hostilities. The character grows from a boy who entered the academy in order to make something of himself to a man by trial of fire - the loss of an only brother while being "conditioned", loss of those under his command, loss of classmates at various points in the storyline - all the while trying to adhere to a code of ethics both his own and the Corps'.

Again, a great read - one that fans of David Feintuch's Seafort Saga would enjoy as well.

Summary: Like "hero" books? Get this one!
Review: Very quick, easy read. My favorite storyline too - young punk kid with nothing to lose trying to find his place in the world. Comparable to Ender in Orson Scott Card's series. Real characters, and believable plot twist.
