Rating: Summary: This book lit up my imagination as a teenager. Review: I picked this book off the shelf at my local Secondary School. I simply couldn't put it down. That was over ten years ago, yet the book is still in my thoughts. I've searched for the book in stores for the last few years, yet no one had even heard of it. I could hardly contain myself when I searched Amazon.com and found an entry! Alas it seems that all those before me loved it as well, and similarly cannot believe that it is out of print. When I have children, I want them to read this book so that it may fire their imaginations and creativity as well.....
Rating: Summary: An unforgettable delight. Review: I read this book in 1986, having borrowed a copy from the Public Library in Bristol, UK. I was immediately and totally enraptured by the world portrayed below Plum Lake. I felt then and now that this is how the world ought to have been! I can't explain it but I just can't get this book out of my head and have been desperately searching for a copy for about 3 years now, as I feel something approaching an urgent need to re read it. I was stunned to see a copy listed on the Amazon web site but so disappointed that it is out of print. I am also amazed to see that I am not the only one on whose imagination this book has made such an astounding impact. If anyone can get hold of a copy PLEASE let me know!
Rating: Summary: an exciting and magical story Review: I read this book long ago and never forgot its magical quality. But, I wish I could remember the whole story, Parts have stayed in my memory. I remember a part, about a magical delicious piece of fruit that you could keep eating, while it retained its wholeness so that you would not have the disappointment of finishing it? If anyone knows how to find a copy, please let me know!
Rating: Summary: this is the greatest book i ever read! Review: I read this book probably 9 years ago and although I never was a big reader I am a writer. Now that I'm getting into reading more, I would love to have my own copy of this book. It was the first book I ever read from cover to cover. Anytime I told anyone about the book, no one had ever heard of it. I'm glad to see that other people feel the way i do about this magnifacent book.
Rating: Summary: Under Plum Lake is one of the best books I have ever read. Review: I read this book when I was about 10 years old. One day my mom bought it for me and I started to read it, it immediatley became one of my favorite books, I took every word in. My mom ended up selling it and I went on an 8 year search for another copy. I finally found it and I will make sure never to lose it again.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books for children and adults alike Review: I read this book when I was in grade school. I am in college now and still think about it all the time. It is definitely one of the best books I have ever read. I am having a lot of trouble finding it, but I hope I can so I can reread it.
Rating: Summary: Finally found my childhood favorite. Review: I think I'm the third person to post that this book is my all time childhood favorite. Images from it have stayed strong in my memory - of the cliff, and of nightime secret sneaking out to visit the underwater world where mindpower is maximized beyond anything our culture can imagine. I read the first edition when it was published, sometime around my fifth grade year. Years and several readings later, I lent it to my brother when he was home one summer from college. He also loved it and lent it to a coworker without my permission. Despite my pleas, we never saw it again. I checked online years ago without success, found it was out of print. I'm now so grateful that it's available to me here. Thanks so much!
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent read! Review: I thought that I was the only person to have read this book. I was pleased to see that there are others out there who enjoyed it just as much. I bought a copy years ago not knowing how lucky I actually was until later when I tried to find another copy. If you can get your hands on a copy you'll absolutely love it!
Rating: Summary: Finally found my childhood favorite. Review: I too first read this book when I was about 11. For some reason I knew it was special and kept it with the vague idea my own children may read it to. Well 20 years later and I have just read it to my two children aged 9 and 8 (girl and boy) for the 2nd time. It is as vivid and beautiful as I remembered it with beautiful illustrations and a front cover that always seems to reveal something new. The story is one of wonder and joy and hope and is as believable to an adult as it is to a child. Both my children fell in love with Egon a world under the sea where you are able to swim not 'like' a fish but as a fish, and where you can experience not only your own birth but the birth of creation. This book is accessible on all levels and has sparked many philosophical discussions about human experience and why we are here. Why this book is out of print is beyond me. Reading it out loud is a joy because the chapters are of a manageable length, and I would highly recommend this book to all parents who still enjoy reading to their children before bed. Amazon can you get it back in print, because I'm not giving my copy to anyone, except maybe my grandchildren.
