Rating: Summary: My God... Review: all i can say is that its so good its unbelievable. i mean, im stunned when i remember how cool that book was. all i can recal is that when i was in about grade 3 my mom (a school teacher) somehow borrowed it from one of her students and let me see it. it was captured by it and have dreamed about it ever since. it completely enthralled me and ive been trying for years to get ahold of it. i still hope i can
Rating: Summary: I must be one of the lucky few. Review: Count me among the rest. I read Under Plum Lake a hundred times when I was nine years old, until the covers were worn and the pages were coming unstuck. Under Plum Lake is like reading someone's dream: vivid, surreal, bright with colors and activity, often frightening. As an adult, years later, I was seized with the desire to find it again. And I was in luck. I found a hardback edition of the book, in excellent condition, at a used bookstore. I was able to reread it as an adult. And now I think I can say in all honesty that Under Plum Lake is magical for children of all ages, because I was once again transported.
Rating: Summary: "Under Plum Lake" took my mind off my teacher Review: Fifteen years ago I had a crush on my ninth grade teacher who, towards the end of the year, gave each student a copy of "Under Plum Lake". Up to that point I was unsure how I'd ever allow Ms. Hirono to grant me a passing grade. Long story short --- a truer love stepped in, reading.
Rating: Summary: bring it back Review: I am an adult, I do not like to read alot, but I do remeber reading this book as a kid and wish to read it again as an adult if i could find it.! the authers ability to create a vivid images in your imagination to the piont of smelling, seeing, and feeling it is extrodinary! a must read for all alike!
Rating: Summary: Under Plum Lake is one of the best books I've ever read. Review: I can't believe I'm not the only person to have ever read this book. I read it first when I was about 10, around 21 years ago. It has always stuck with me. But every time I've ever told anyone about it they've never heard of it. It was such an imaginative book, I felt like I was actually there as I read it. I've been drawn back to it over the years and I believe it is still at our local public library, but I've never had a copy of my own. I would love to know where I could get a copy. It's too bad a book this good is so hard to find.
Rating: Summary: Rare and haunting beauty Review: I first read this wonderful book years ago, and it has remained with me ever since, like a vivid and rich dream. It's not merely the intensely colorful images, one after another, but the tone of the story itself: awed, and yet afraid that it might indeed be just a dream, and even more afraid that it might be lost forever. As previous reviewers can testify, this is a book that stays with you, lingering with a melancholy, yearning glow. Urgently in need of reprinting! For those looking for copies, try library used book sales - I've already found three hardcover copies, one for myself and two for friends.
Rating: Summary: This my all time favorite book, my forever memory. Review: I found this book when I was 10 or 11 at the library and I instantly bought a copy. I read it many times and told all of my friends about it. In highschool I made the mistake of lending it to someone and have never seen it since. I have looked high and low and have gotten many other people I know involved in my search. It is the most wonderful, vivid story I have ever read. I went through a book search company and they found a hardcover edition for me. Even at 26 yrs. old I still love this book. It's the kind of story you wish would really happen to you and it makes you want to go looking for secret entries to caves in Cornwall, England and any other mysterious places you hear about. I was thrilled to see it here on Amazon.com and even more to see other people love it as much as me.
Rating: Summary: Please someone help me get hold of a copy! Review: I have been trying to get hold of my own copy of Under Plum Lake for nearly three years, and if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. The story has haunted me since I first read it- about 14 years ago age 7- its good to know you all feel the same! How can such a dreamlike story so universally beautiful for children AND adults go out of print? Someone's messed up somewhere....
Rating: Summary: Where can I find it? Review: I haven't read this book for four years and Ive forgotten most of the story, but I would love to be able to read it again. I was lucky enough to find a copy in my school libary and read it over and over again. The main things I can remember about it is how haunting and beautiful the story was. I would love to find a copy so does anyone know, where can I find it?
Rating: Summary: Incredible story and beautiful imagery Review: I lent this book to an old boyfriend and have often thought of calling him just so I could get it back! It's the only book that I have read over and over...as a 12 year old girl, I was taken to another world of lush color, taste, touch and smell! I'm ready to dive in again soon! It's a shame that it is out of print. I would love a new copy.
