Summary: Skim it for the ideas, skip the fiction
Review: I particularly enjoyed straight essays such as "Vehicles for Future Wars", especially the section on the feasibility of vehicular evasion of orbital lasers. He's done the numbers, has a great argument I'd not heard. The discussion of the implications of increasing payload fraction was interesting, too.

However, as much as I tried, I couldn't bring myself to finish the short stories. I read several, couldn't bring myself to finish the rest.

Summary: Solid entertainment
Review: This book is well worth getting *just* for the story "Lost in Translation", which I've read several times already. The rest of the stories are frosting on the cake.
