Rating: Summary: This book is part of a Genre of its own. Review: Mark E. Rogers is brave when it comes to treading the world of written word. He does not conform to the cut and dried recipes. He assaults those techniques with a fresh and dark method of writing that is unlike anyone out there. This book continues in that genre. The Mark E. Rogers which melds Fantasy, Horror, and Erotica all nice an neatly into its own demented world. This book is the first in a series of three and also ties in nicely with other books. This book introduces us to several very interesting and distinctly different characters. They have one thing in common. They are all living and struggling in a depraved place known as Khymir. If you think you have read about depravity and evil. You haven't. If you think you have heard it all. You haven't. Strap yourself into your chair and bring along a good supply of beverages and snacks because, you won't be coming out of this book until you have read the last page. This book is most definately not suitable for young people. This is an NC-17 rated book and Mark did not hold anything back when writing it.

Rating: Summary: Irregular fantasy, delightful and intense Review: Rogers uses a unique viewpoint to give us a world that doesn't conform to the fantasy we are used to- there are no quests through pristine forests, no virgins and unicorns, and there certainly aren't any men in tights and silly pointy hats with feathers in them. After reading Blood and Pearls, and sympathizing with newcomer Jagutai's civilized outrage, one has to delve deep down within one's self and wonder: how much of myself is reflected in Khymir? What insight does Mark Rogers have into human nature? How accurate is his disturbing perception and reflection of us? The city of Khymir's raw violence and celebration of all of the baser human instincts shocks and intrigues the reader and makes him question himself- but that's not all that is unique about this novel, and indeed all of Rogers' work. He gives his characters a flippant wit, provides them with captivating dialogue, and shows us intricate plotlines full of political wrangling, theology, and gender wars. Read this book if you want to think, and wonder, and squirm.
Rating: Summary: This Is Not Your Parents Fantasy Novel Review: The action, sex, and political/religious power struggle in the city of Khymir, makes for a great story in Blood and Pearls. The charactors in the story are very original from Zancharthus with his magical rings and firey temper to Jaguti who seems to be the only man in the book who has ever heard of morals. Fast paced with very graphic, and descriptive battles, Mark E. Rogers beutifully projects his dark fantasy into the minds of the readers. There are also fantastic illistrations found throughout the book done by the auther himself. If your're a fan of Swords, dark magic, and things that crawl and slither give Blood + Pearls a try you will love it.

Rating: Summary: Blood, sex, and ethical debate ... my kind of novel. Review: Theological debate turns up in the darnedest places -- like in Blood and Pearls, Mark E. Roger's new book. Set in the same world as his Zorachus and Blood of the Lamb books, Blood and Pearls begins the story of Zancharthus, possessor of the Mancdaman demon rings, right-hand man of Dessicatorius (High Priest of Tchernobog), and eventual father of Zorachus. Although he is a priest himself, Zancharthus doesn't have much faith in Tchernobog or Dessicatorius. In the tumultuous city of Khymir, that could go either way for an ambitious wizard with populist leanings. Blood and Pearls has a full complement of hacking, gouging, slicing, conjuring, lechery, treachery, sorcery and sex. But what I like best is the theology. There's not a lot of it, and it's possible that some readers will prefer other elements -- the arachnid-loving High Priest Dessicatorius perhaps, or his sadomasochistic henchmen Spancel and Flay; the olive-skinned beauty Torrisanna (High Priestess of Tsa-Terrathu) or her exquisite body servant Lilitu. As for me, I like the ethical discussions between Zancharthus and Jagutai Jen Shian, natural son of the Great Khan and disgusted newcomer to decadent Khymir. Moral theology amidst the horror of burning slavegirls and the allure of religious orgies -- Try it, you might like it as much as I did!
Rating: Summary: Incredible! A must-read for swords and sorcery fans! Review: This book is great! I couldn't put it down. Non-stop action, adventure, blood, gore, sex, and everything that makes a novel great. The characters are compelling, drawing you into the plot as it gets twisted around. The art is excellent as well! This is an all-around great book!
Rating: Summary: Blood+Pearls Review: This book is triumphant prequel to Zorachus and The blood of the Lamb series. It tells the story of Mancdaman Zancharthus, father of Zorachus, his ally, Jagutai Jen Shian, and their battle against Serrator Dissicatorius, and chronicles the battle of qualified good over absolute deranged evil. This book is one of the best that I have read in a long time, and even drew me away from the new Tom Clancy. There are 2 more books planned after this one, Jagutai and Lilitu, and Night of the Long Knives.
