Rating: Summary: science fiction Steppe history [no spoilers] Review: Alp, a great warrior of the Steppe, is unwillingly snatched at an opportune moment to the future of 2332 where history is reenacted in an intergalactic game to educate and entertain enthusiasts about the great nomadic tribes of the Asian empire. Alp must participate and hopes his knowledge of the events, people, and strategies of the era might help him score high enough to survive afterwards. From what I gather, this game is based on factual accounts of Asian history. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the education of the time period. The transition of past to future geography and technology is well thought out. The story moves extremely fast and can be mildly tricky to follow when the history lessons happen. Good action story combined with romance and suspense make "Steppe" an enjoyable read. Thank you.
Rating: Summary: Anthony, tell us: whatever happened to these kind of books? Review: An excellent story, and one from a period in which Anthony still had the ability to enable us to picture in our own minds the scenery of his stories, and to understand why the characters did the things they did. Anthony, if you read these, go back to the way you wrote when you wrote this enjoyable, unusual story.
Rating: Summary: from the back cover Review: At the moment of his death, Alp, a powerful and cunning Turkish warrior chieftain, is thrust naked, weaponless and horseless into a bewildering world that her perceives as hell. He soon discovers that the hell he inhabits is filled not with demons, but a race of humans known as Galactics from an age far removed from his own. He has been chosen to fight, and perhaps die again, in a vast intergalactic game called Steppe-a strange recreation of his own era where horses are starships, cities are planets and mountains are suns. Alp has always been a victor in the bloody struggle for survival among his people. Will his barbarian cunning be enough to defeat the intellectual might of the Galactics and by his knowledge of his own time win a place for himself among the stars?
Rating: Summary: Read it for a new way to learn history. Review: If you can get your hands on the orginal copy, GO FOR IT. I can't tell you what he did in the new version. I read the orginal in 10th grade and got an A in history with out cracking a book. Great tale and if he didn't change it to much this one would have to be a ten, becuase the first was a 15.
Rating: Summary: history made fun Review: if your like me and like history and sci-fi this a must read book. it takes Alp a turk from the 9'th century Steppe and puts him in the future- into a game about his past. Mr.Anthony talked about more books in this series. i would like to see one about the U.S. and Canada.
Rating: Summary: Historic Magic!!!!! Review: This book is easily findable at used book stores so don't worry about finding it here on amazon. Never before or probably again will I read a book quite like this one. This book is real world history intricatly and intelligently weaved into a future landscape. It cannot be fully explained just how well done this book is. Even if you don't like science fiction and you don't like history. You will still marvel at the skill involved in this book. You will laugh at yourself because you will feel as if you've been tricked into reading a history lesson. But it feels nothing like that. This book is where Anthony truly shines because it took intelligence and a great artistic mind to write this novel. This book is Great!!!!!!!!

Rating: Summary: Read it, if you can find it. Review: This is a historical-science fiction book by the author of the Xanth series. A 'fish out of water' story about an chieftan from the ninth century steppe is brough into the future at the moment of his (would be) death. This novel tries to accuratly portray life during the age of Ghengis Kahn. I found it interesting and memorable.
Rating: Summary: Steppe By Piers Anthony Review: This is one of my favorite books because after I finnished it and read the end notes I was facinated with the background. This is a sci-fi recreation of a historical figures life. Just a caution don't try to find out ahead of time who it is just read and then try to see if you can figure out who just from the story (it is accurate in a strange way). This is also a great way to get people who like sci-fi into history or to get a history buff into sci-fi.
