Rating: Summary: Tired of unicorns and quests? Here's something new! Review: A splendid tale of magic and intrigue, with an interesting, unusual protagonist. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'd say more, but the author has already said it better in her note above!
Rating: Summary: Gripping, descriptive, well written. Review: Excellant plot - talented author. Maya Bohnhoff's use of vivid descriptions brings both the characters and the historical setting alive for the reader. I encourage all those who enjoy science fiction - fantasy to get to know this authors works.

Rating: Summary: Fantasy with Rivets! Review: I'd like to comment that THE SPIRIT GATE is more than
just a traditional "mage-in-training" fantasy. The summary line is from an interview I did with Starlog and was coined by the reporter to describe my fantasies. Since most of my short fiction is science fiction, I suppose it should be no surprise that my fantasies have a pragmatic bent. TSG is a book of political intrigue, mystery, and deals with magic in what I hope is a fresh way. Dragon Magazine calls the magic in TSG "an intruiguing construct, at once traditional yet distinctive" and goes on to say that, "Bohnhoff's attention to details of history, character, and magic make this novel stand out."
The novel uses a fantasy setting to explore issues of prejudice, intolerance, and the nature and effects of power.
A warning: I've been told THE SPIRIT GATE keeps folks
up late. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: This is not a book you just read, you experience it! Review: Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff takes a mystical world in The Spirit Gate and makes it feel real. From the pictures her words paint in your mind to the emotions and desires of the characters that you feel deep in your heart, your mind will live in the world of Kassia and her earth magic. You will follow her as she explores her powers, unravels mysteries, and faces decisions that will decide the fate of a nation, of a religion, of the very magic that runs through her soul. After reading this book, you too will beg Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff to write more!
