Summary: draws reader into it, but only part of the story
Review: The descriptions and the appealing characters drew me into the book. The alien characters are a good blend of human and animal characteristics. The story of The Golden One, who was kidnapped, found and raised by the princess, discredited and exiled, is an alien Moses. There's also a subplot of a young thief. Although the story left me with a feeling of satisfaction and some resolution, I almost wish I had waited for the rest of the trilogy to come out. The cliffhanger ending only leaves the heroine disillusioned about the Viis, swearing vengence on her former friend, the Vir princess, and sold to a gladiator trainer. The whole point of this book seems to be preparing her for a rebellion. It left me asking, "What happened to the rest."

Summary: The book was very thrilling, a must read book.
Review: The best book I have ever read. It was very exciting. If you haven't read this book you should get it and read it. I'm positive that it is going to be one of the best books you've read.

Summary: A GOOD BOOK
Review: This is a foray paralleling the slave situations of the past, though a whole lot less tedious to read. This is a good book, but I hope Ms. Chester doesn't drop her discriptive flair, but expands it into more of a sweeping panorama, because the scenes seem rather confined, for some reason. I'm also hoping for something uplifting, and possibly some space action(?)

Summary: Old cliches put into a new format, or not so new.
Review: Slow begining. A bunch of stuff already done before. . .over all, I wouldn't say it's a terrible book, it was okay. This will not go down in history as one of George Lucas's greater creations, not even really in the GOOD catagory. It's just another book about a race of people who have slaves and one of them decides to break free from thier evil ways. I wouldn't recremend this to you people out there who like alot of space-faring action, or like anything face paced, because this is not the book for you.

Summary: Been there, done that. . .
Review: It's Like the mini-series "Roots" with a sci-fi spin on it. It was interesting though, but these alien races were to human to be belivable.

Summary: Great stuff
Review: This is a great book. And with the stage set as it is the next one looks to be even better. I particularly enjoyed this book beacus of the historey cource I am taking. The American history paralals are great. I am also taking an antropolagy cource and beacus of this I keep an eye turned to the cultral reasonings of the protaganests and antaganists, and have found this to be a verey well put-togeter storey. this book is a TEN!

Summary: Loved the read, hate the wait.
Review: Very well done. It seems as she has found simple ways for the characters to be so easily built and understood but more complex than you first thought. A great page turner. It is so disappointing that the second is not out as of yet, but she has a trilogy out that is a wonderful read to pass the time. Shadow war will keep you turnig pages in the wait. I am very impressed.

Summary: My 8 year old and I want more!
Review: I picked this up in the supermarket, and after reading a few chapters, I started having to fight my eight-year old daughter for it (I won, mostly becase she is usually reading 4-5 books at one time.) I am impressed by a story and depth of writing that can hold the interest of people 34 years apart in age! I am glad that I was able to finish first, so that I can guide her over any rough spots. I want the next book! One question, though, reading one of the other comments, I see that the Aaroun is referred cat-like. Am I crazy, or did I miss this? I thought both the Kelth and the Aarouns were more canine than anything else!

Summary: I want the next installment.
Review: A good read. The charaters are fleshed out well and are likable and believable. You are not overwhelmed by details but there is enough detail to draw good pictures in your mind. The plot is detailed and have surprizing twists that are also believable.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A captivating new series!
Review: This new universe immediately grabs you and keeps you riveted; the characters are intreguing and story engrossing. You won't be able to put it down. I give it a 10 and want more!
