Summary: The Best single in a trilogy i have ever read...
Review: This is the best way to start a trilogy, but then again, the companies Gorge Lucas ( unsure of spelling ) know all about trilogies. Star Wars... but this one is different. This is a story about a once beautiful society, the Viis, who are now degrading. The story is from the two main characters, Ampris and Elrabin. Although the speices in this book are similar to creatures of earth, very unlike starwars, they are well described and explored. This is a story that will leave you waiting for the other two books, as it did to me... I have asked quite a few times at the local bookstore, but it isn't out yet. I can't wait till it is. Like one of the other reviewers, i wish i wouldn't have found this book till after the trilogy was out, thatway i could read them all as one big story. This is the best book i have read in a long time.

Summary: A highly entertaining read.
Review: This book was a total surprise. After the first chapter, I was completely involved with the caracters and story. The author draws you into the story by presenting fantastic alien caracters and societies while at the same time, relaying the most basic of human needs; freedome. This is a definate page-turner. You automatically find yourself concerned for Ampris and other caracters in the book I recomend this book for all readers of Science Fiction and for those who do not particularly like SF, it is an exelent introduction.

Summary: A thoroughly enjoyable read
Review: I truly adored reading 'The Golden One'. The society and culture of the universe that twas shown in its pages was a unique one to be sure. The characters are well-formed and intelligent. The conflict within Ampris of loyalties to her supposed family, her species' history, and more importantly to the destiny of all abiru was fasinating to watch and am highly looking forward to the next installment of the tale. Part of me wishes I hadn't discovered this series til the last book had come out, for now the wait shall be torture indeed! *smilez*

Summary: An engrossing read.
Review: Alien Chronicles is a good start to the trilogy. There were some slow chapters but I think necesary in order to set the stage for the next book. Although this is the first of three, it can stand alone. When is the sequal to be in the stores? I can hardly wait to see what happens next.

Summary: Great!
Review: I loved this book. The characters were explored in depth and are utterly believable. This book is a good read for any sci-fi (or fantasy!) fan. My only regret is that it's taking so long for the next one to come out--but I'm diligently scanning the shelves at the bookstore for the sequal!

Summary: I love it!
Review: I love it from beginning to end. It's slow paced, more realistic than the phazer-shot, photon torpedo Trek-type, but most important, there is a lot to be gain or loss by the characters. They got a great description of their sociology and the way these aliens think. Beautiful. This is a great blend of fantasy, imagination and smart plot. By adding social issues to the novel, it brings fantasy "down to earth." I love it! I can't wait to read the next one.

Summary: I couldn't put it down!
Review: It was a wonderfully written book, that I couldn't put it down! I enjoyed reading about Ampris' adventures. Every time I go to Borders I see if the next book comes out. It never does. When is it coming? I can't wait.

Summary: Well-written with minor complaints.......
Review: Excellent parellels between our society and the setting for "Golden One" ......The dangers of a class system run amuck, a decaying infrastructure......Unlike a previous reviewer, I thought Ampris' story was more convuluted and interesting (What constitutes being a "person" etc...) My only real complaint is that the races are too doglike, catlike, lizardlike, bisonlike, ratlike, etc. etc......It's hard to see beyond these too familiar traits to see the real character...The themes they represent are recocnizable enough.

Summary: Must have #2 in series!!!!!
Review: This book was fabulous! I could hardly wait for my lunch break everyday to read it! And even then, I never had enough time. The characters are so well written, you fall in love with them, especially naive little Ampris. When is the next one coming out, my breaks are boring now!

Summary: Great story, although slow at times
Review: First I'd like to say that The Golden One is a great story and definitely worth reading. I first picked up the book because of the great artistry on the cover and was glad I did because like I said before, this book is damn good. There are a few weaknesses in the book such as the design of the aliens. The aliens are just your standard unimaginative cat-like, dog-like, lizard-like creatures...I would have expected better from the minds at Lucasfilm. The stories of Ampris and Elrabin are, at the end of the book, very loosely connected but it doesn't take a genius to figure out how the two characters will meet again. I did enjoy the story of Elrabin a great deal more than Ampris' and at times I was tempted to skip an "Ampris" chapter to get to an "Elrabin" one. The Ampris chapters I found to move very slowly but did create an image of the vast difference in living standards between the royal Viis and inner-city abiru. All in all it's a great book with a few twists and turns along the way...I can't wait for the second book in the trilogy to come out!
