Rating: Summary: Certain to be a classic Review: A brilliant book destined to become a classic. Undoubtedly the best new fantasy novel of the past decade. I have read the book twice and plan to order the audio edition as soon as possible. I recommend this book without reservation--it's a must-read.
Rating: Summary: Excellent adaptation of classic material Review: As an instructor in classic literature, I'm often frustrated in my attempts to interest classes in works such as La Morte d'Arthur, The Song of Roland, Beowulf and others. How exciting, then, to find a book that can easily stand alongside such other enduring adaptations of the world's great legendary literature as, for example, The Once and Future King. I take my hat off to Ron Miller for his book, Bradamant, which is filled with humor, high adventure and heroes and heroines who are at one and the same time bigger than life and altogether human. This book is destined to become a classic in its own right. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: A very highly recommended, classic medieval adventure tale Review: Bradamant is a rarity. A female knight in service to the Emperor Charlemagne. A respected and feared warrior knight, she is also a young woman coming of age and struggling with her beliefs. She is a lover torn between the enemy knight she loves and her devotion to her king. Fearless and ruthless on the battlefield, Bradamant is vulnerable and confused in love. With Bradamant: The Iron Tempest, Ron Miller has crafted a very highly recommended, classic medieval adventure tale of chivalry, humor, magic, treachery, and romance -- all from the perspective of a woman warrior holding her own in a male-dominated age of violence, intrigue, and treachery.
Rating: Summary: I hope this won't be the last Bradamant book! Review: Fabulous book! My only criticism is that there wasn't any more--I hope that the publisher has plans for either more adventures of Bradamant or more books by Mr. Miller--he's one of the best, most imaginative writers I've read in a very long time. I can't say that I've ever read anything quite like this before and I'm not sure who to best compare it to. The cover blurbs mention James Branch Cabell and Terry Pratchett, and the comparison is a good one. It's as though P. G. Wodehouse had decided to write a fantasy novel--but with a very dark side that Wodehouse never had. This book is funny, but it's not a humorous novel by any means--there's quite a serious side to it all. All I can really say is, get the thing for yourself . . . you won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: Most unusual fantasy novel I've ever read! Review: I loved it! Unlike most every other heroic fantasy novel I've ever read, I could never predict where this one was going. A surprise at every turn. The title character is a really believable human being--incredibly powerful, but vulnerable and human at the same time. What really surprised me is how funny the book is--I sometimes found myself laughing out loud.
Rating: Summary: Great dramatic adaptation Review: I'm about halfway through the audio adaptation of Bradamant and I must say that it's one of the best I've ever listened to. It's more like listening to a movie with your eyes shut than the usual audio book, where one voice is reading the book to you. Although a narrator reads the story, different actors take the parts of the character's voices. With the addition of sound effects, the result is a very rich, very realistic experience. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: BRADAMANT is an utter delight! Review: Ron Miller has given us a real treat! From white knuckle action and magical adventure to the highest ideals of chivalry and downright lust, BRADAMANT has it all. And it's presented in a richly literate prose reminiscent of Sir Walter Scott but doused with a wicked sense of humor. Don't miss out on this modern classic!!

Rating: Summary: Certain to be a classic! Review: This is an absolutely brilliant book, destined surely to be a modern classic. I can't think of anything to compare it to, it is so rich in every quality. Characters that are at one and the same time incredible and human, action that is over the top yet described as though it were the most natural thing in the world. What's really surprising is that the book is funny--I laughed out loud many times. If Bradamant doesn't win the World Fantasy Award this next year, I can't imagine what it would take to do so.
