Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT! Review: I just finished reading this book, and I was sorry to see it end. This is a hard book to put down. I found myself turning down lunch out with co-workers so I wouldn't lose my reading time. I loved Debra and Leonard. What happened with them was a total surprise. I kept trying to think what comedian he may have been based on. Shelby kind of worked my nerves a little bit. But it was obvious that she and Tyrel were meant for each other. I wanted to punch Richard out myself! It's almost hard to see why Shelby would have even considered a man like him at all. Anyway, I totally enjoyed this book, as well as Mr. Dickey's other two that I have read, Milk In My Coffee and Sister, Sister. I swear that man must have been raised by a house full of women. He writes his female characters as a woman would. I found myself checking the back cover a few times to make sure it was a MAN who had written it. I think he is going to be a SERIOUS voice in black writing. His books are fast-paced, based in reality, and as I said, excellent reads! Keep up the good work. As a frustrated writer myself, I hope he doesn't get TOO mad if I steal his style! I can see that this will be another writer that I will instinctively buy everytime a new book is published. Gettin' ready to read Cheaters next!
Rating: Summary: Dickey Has Really Outdone Himself Review: "Friends and Lovers" by Eric Jerome Dickey is a sensual tale of the lives of four people: Debra, Shelby, Tyrel, and Leonard. Once you pick this book up and begin reading, it's hard to put back down. This book is filled with drama and suspence from beginning to end. If you have ever been in love, you will find yourself laughing out loud and losing a few tears. The words truly jump off of the page and into your life. Erick Jerome Dickey has really outdone himself with this book. It can only be called a Literary Work of Art.
Rating: Summary: Great Novel! Review: I have to say: this book kept me entertained. I read it faster than I read most books (and I read pretty fast) so that's saying a lot. The characters are wonderful and flawed. The writing is spunky and unique. The descriptions are effective. And the storyline--about staying friends through anything--has been explored a lot, but not in this way. I think this book is way better than "Sister Sister" and "Milk in My Coffee." I haven't read "Cheaters" yet, but I plan to.
Rating: Summary: Don't judge a book by it's cover Review: I have to admit, the cover of this book did not appeal to me. A co-worker had been encouraging me to read it for a while, and I kept on declining. It just seemed that the market had had been inundated with African American authors, and I was getting bored with it. Funny, what boredom does to the soul. I could not put this book down once I started reading it. Eric Jerome Dickey writes from the woman's perpective better than most female writers. You have a promiscuous male and female, who had to take a look at their choices in sexual partners. Then there was the sisterfriends relationship. Three women of different social status who attempt to maintain a friendship in trying time. I was impressed. All the characters in this book, I knew somebody like them. I have no more words. Just trust me. This book is DA BOMB.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining and Funny Review: From the opening pages of this book, I was hooked. Shelby's character had me smiling at first and laughing shortly after. That pretty much set the tone of the book for me and made me anxious to dive into reading this book. About a week or so later, I finished the book and it was a fantastic book that was entertaining, funny, and touching. A great book by a great author.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED IT! Review: I must begin this by saying that I am not an avid reader. I have just started reading for pleasure and this is the second book of Dickey's that I have read. And I must say this was the better of the two. This book flows so smoothly you won't want to put it down. It had me laughing out loud and screaming at the characters throughout the entire book. If you haven't read any of Dickey's books I suggest you check this one out. Personally, I can't wait to buy his next book.
Rating: Summary: Bernadette's Viewpoint Review: I JUST FINISHED READING THIS BOOK THIS MORNING AND THEN MET WITH MY BOOK CLUB TO DISCUSS IT. EVERYONE FELT THAT THIS WAS A GOOD BOOK. I PERSONALLY ENJOYED HEARING THINGS FROM A MAN'S POINT OF VIEW (EX. THE THINGS THEY TALKED ABOUT REGARDING THEIR RELATIONSHIPS WITH WOMEN). I ALSO LIKED HOW BOTH SETS OF FRIENDS WERE INDEED TRUE, LOVING AND CARING TO EACH OTHER. BOTH LOVE STORIES WERE UNIQUE IN THEIR OWN WAY. I WAS ESPECIALLY HEARTBROKEN WHEN LEONARD WAS KILLED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE READ ANYTHING BY ERIC DICKEY BUT YOU CAN BET I'M GOING TO READ EVERYTHING I CAN BY HIM. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ERIC, FOR YOU ARE INDEED THE TERI MCMILLAN FOR THE MEN.
Rating: Summary: Keep It Coming Eric Review: Eric Jerome Dickey has got to be one of the best fictional novelists period. I have read all of his released novels and loved everyone of them. I think Friends and Lovers was my favorite because I really got wrapped up in the characters. His subtle romance scenes were great! And he really kept you going with small surprises. Great double love story. I truly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for some wonderful entertainment. Keep it up!
Rating: Summary: Relationships going through trying stages Review: Very good book. Emphasized the importance of friendship and fullfilling relationships. One of Dickeys better books. The ending was good and left readers on a solemn note. Cannot wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: Friends and lovers had a slow start Review: Friends and Lovers had a slow start but picked up the space towards the middle off the book. It is a wonderful book and I encourage young men and women to read it. It is a eye opener, and lets you know there is such a thing as true love. It will make you cry and open your eyes up the many things we take for granted.
