Rating: Summary: You have to read this! Review: I found that this book was an amazing sequal to Mairelon the Magician. I found this book in the library titled Magic and Malice which had both books together, and could not put it down. The ending was the best. I was wishing that Kim and Mairelon would, well never mind. You have to read it! Patricia Wrede really out did herself on this one.
Rating: Summary: IN LOVE! 1 Review: This is a wonderfully well-written story about Kim - a former street thief and Mairelon - the magician who takes Kim as his ward. You'll love this book too once you've read it!
Rating: Summary: So when's the third coming out? Review: "Magician's Ward" is a truly excellent book, even better than the already-wonderful "Mairelon the Magician." The plot is just as good and easier to understand, and we receive further insight into the characters. Ms. Wrede's period detail is impeccable. This is currently my favorite book (subject to change without notice). One word of advice: when reading this or "Mairelon the Magician," have a dictionary next to you, just in case.
Rating: Summary: Magically Captivating Review: All of Ms. Wrede's books stand out in my mind as being some of the best I have ever read(and that's saying a lot, because I've been reading since I was four and I'm thirteen now!). She has perfected the art of humorous writing and I find that it makes her books stand apart from others. However, when I came to the site and found that the book had only 4.5 stars, I was shocked. I myself would have given this book 6 stars if I could have, but was forced to settle for five. Ms. Wrede's book is hilarious and captivating, with characters we can all relate to and information on a real time. I find this book amazingly well written and developed. I wish to give Ms. Wrede a pure cheer of thanks and tip my hat off to her
Rating: Summary: great book! Review: This book is absoultly the best book ever! The plot is strong with no weak ends. The characters are unique and humorous. The romance is to die for! This is one of the most well written books that I've read. I recommend that you read the first book, Mairelon The Magician first. You don't have to but it would be the best to do so. I love to read fantasy novels so if you ever want to talk about novels please e-mail me at sapphire_v_@hotmail.com.
Rating: Summary: Patricia C. Wrede does it again! Review: Where do you start? Well I guess with what the books about. The book is about a young gril who is a ward and aprintace to a magician.(They met under interesting circumstances, but you'll have to read the first book to figure out how.) She is training in magic as well as in manors. Did I mention that she was a thief before meeting the magician? You can really relate to Kim as she goes through the boring social meetings.Anyway, she hears a thump in the night and goes to investigate and finds a nobleman trying to run off with an old book. Through the rest of the Magician's Ward you find the importance of the old book and get to live in the book with Kim during the spells, action, embarassment, and mystery. A must read!
Rating: Summary: Magical, enchanting, and very humorous! Review: I loved this book! Mairelon the Magician was pretty good (and traditional of all of Patricia Wrede's books, extremely funny).Magician's Ward is absolutely, positively wonderful! The characters were really developed in the sequel. Miss Wrede's books are always inspiring because they have good characters, plots that are not cliche, but always fresh and new, good language, clean outline (which is becoming rare lately),halarious interactions between characters, romance, and all that good stuff! Mairelon the Magician was outstanding when there was dialogue, but could kind of get to be a "page filler" when there wasn't. Magician's Ward however was... I can't tell you anything more other than it was the best and one of my favorite books! A MUST READ!
Rating: Summary: Decent, quick read Review: It seemed to be geared toward young people, and when viewed in that light, not bad. The finale consisted of a bit too much talking and explaining by the characters (but not as much as in Maerlon the Magician) and not enough action. I was never tempted to put it down and walk away, though I kept thinking of ways it could have been better. I do like the character of Kim very much and would have liked to see more about the college of wizardry. All in all, not an unpleasant way to spend an afternoon.
Rating: Summary: The best book! Review: Every one of Patricia Wrede's books I have read has been absolutely wonderful. Magician's Ward was fast paced and had one of those thick swallow-you-up plots that made it nearly impossible to stop reading. Patricia Wrede has a wonderful sense of humor that only made the book better. It's one of those rare sequels where the second book surpasses the first. It's well worth reading, in other words READ IT!
Rating: Summary: definately worth the time Review: I have loved all of Patricia Wrede's books that I have read, and this one is no different. It has the same odd style of humor in all her books, and is a delightful new twist to the London ton. I hope that there will be more in this series.
