Rating: Summary: Loved it, loved it, loved it . . . Review: This book was great! I was so intrigued by the whole society and world that the author created. I really cared about the characters. The only reason I didn't give this book five stars was because there were MANY grammatical errors which should have been caught by the editor. And the love scene between Jovvi and Lorand was a bit on the funny side (ie, "incredible tunnel"). That part was worth a giggle, seeing as it reminded me of the things my grandmother reads:) But all in all, a very good book.
Rating: Summary: Great! Best Fantasy I've Read Review: I've returned from Hawaii and read it while I was there (along with 2&3) I couldn't put it down. Some of it's corny, but still, it was great.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!!, WOW!!! Review: I really enjoyed this story. This is more then classic fantasy, this is why God invented ink.
Rating: Summary: Slamming book!!; A MUST READ!!! Review: I have to say this is one of the best books I have read in a long time. The basis for the plot, the laws governing those with a fair amount of magic, are most intriguing. The characters are so realistic. This is the first book I have read from Green and it's definately not the last!
Rating: Summary: Did I read the same book as the rest of you? Review: This book is bad on so many levels, I can't begin to describe everything that's wrong with it. The prose is clumsy (one character's clothing is described as "eye-hurting"), especially in the sex scenes ("incredible tunnel"? Give me a break!), and the story itself isn't original enough to make up for the bad writing. Magical talents that correspond to the elements? Unwilling partners in Saving the World? Gee, never heard those before. The conflicts are tissue-thin and unconvincingly resolved, and the drama most closely resembles that found in any high-school hallway. The first-person narration before the introduction of each character is particularly poor, with Tamrissa sometimes bowled over by her nearly non-existent cleverness. For example: "Do you understand now about my comment concerning Clarion's habit of putting on 'airs'? With his aspect being Air magic, how could he do anything else?...You want me to get on with the narrative. That's probably because you missed the pun and now you're annoyed, but that's all right, I'll let you simply go on pretending to be sophisticated..." Um, no, we couldn't have missed the pun if we'd closed our eyes, put our fingers in our ears, and sung "La la la." And I wouldn't read any more of this series if it were the only fiction on earth. I am mystified as to how it got published.
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent series Review: Great characters, great plot, great "laws". This is a terrific read and I can't wait for the next book in the series.Weaknesses: The author is a little skimpy with some details central to the plot, such as what the "prophecies" actually foretell and who foretold them, who the "advisors" are and how they actually relate to the gov't structure, and if the "5-fold" throne is a puppet, do they actually have any authority at all. But READ THESE BOOKS
Rating: Summary: Wow, this book almost instantly became one of my favorites. Review: This is a terrific book, one of the best I have read yet. I am currently reading the second one which is just as good as the first. The characters in this book are so compelling, I just want to cry with Tamrissa when she talkes about her parents. Jovvi seems to be one of the kindest people I've ever heard of; I wish she was one of my friends. Vallant is enchanting, and I love him already. Clarion, or Rion, is simply adorable. I envy him his strength. Lorand just seems as if he'd be the kind of person you just sit with all day and are comforted even by his presense. I can't wait to finish the second book and read the third. Keep writing Sharon!
Rating: Summary: BETTER THAN 5 STARS! THEY SHOULD HAVE A 6! Review: This is, seriously, the best book I've ever read (I haven't read 2 or 3 yet, so....). The characters are SO realistic, I feel like I've known them all my life. Ms. Green writes them so well, they're troubles, feelings, hopes, dreams, wishes, everything. They're perfect. The plot is RAVISHINGLY DELIGHTFUL! I've always been fascinated with fantasy, and magic (I'm 15, for those wondering) and this book quenches all desires. Opinion for Sharon: In the beginning of the next book, or whatever, write the REAL prophecies. Like what they say. That way, people will know a little bit more of what's going on. I loved this book, and just ordered books 2 and 3 from my bookstore today! I CAN'T WAIT FOR THEM TO COME IN (this will be the longest 2 weeks of my life). I e-mailed Ms. Green yesterday (still no reply), and hope to get an answer to a question I'm sure everyone's been asking: WHEN'S NUMBER 4 COMING OUT?! -MM
Rating: Summary: A wonderful fantasy adventure Review: I read this book in a day and found it the most stimulating fantasy book I'd read in a while. The next installment was just as good, and I look forward with anticipation to the completion of the series. Sharon Green has created a world with believably human characters and a captivating plot. A must-read for fantasy lovers.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Devoured it Review: I can't wait to get my hands on the next two. This book is one of the best that I have read in a long time. And considering I read at least ten fantasy/sci-fi novels a month, I consider this one to be an absolute jewel. I was also delighted to find an interview with the author. Green's fluid sense of writing and contrast between her characters carries the reader into the book. Once again, I'm glad that I found this book, it's a good book among so many boring clones. I would recommend this book to all and place it in my fave ten books
