Rating: Summary: An okay story. . .but not one your going to read again Review: While I find little at fault with the overall plot, the repetition of the story from five viewpoints gets to be very boring. Also, what should be the climax of the book doesn't actually happen until the second book. All you get up getting in the first is a history of the characters. It's a good way to spend the time if you are looking for something to do, but not something one would want to read over and over. I bought the first book, but don't plan on buying the others. It does have it's good moments but tends to turn into a soap opera as the book(s) become more and more involved with the personal lives (and sexual relationships) between the five main characters.
Rating: Summary: Not a Tolkien but DEFINATELY worth your time Review: OK, this book has some low points, but really, have you ever read one that didn't? {E-mail me with the title if so} And don't get all defensive and start blabbering about how The Lord of the Rings was perfect in EVERY way. I've read it and have to admit Tolkien does know how to write fantasy. That doesn't mean that Green doesn't. Convergence was an exciting book full of adventure, pride, terror, and romance. Though I've got to say that the "romance" was taken a little to far in one truly outrageous "love" scene. WARNING: It left NOTHING out. But the dim-wits who are griping about how she wrote the same thing with every character? If she hadn't you still would of nagged, but about how she left information out. This book may not be perfect, but it's still worth your time. READ IT.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating world, intriguing story line and characters. Review: It's not very often I'm so involved in a book that I devour it in three days! I MUST read the rest of this series! Wonderful fantasy book, I recommend it to any reader who enjoys fantasy and even those who don't.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. Review: Okay. All of you people giving this book a one star should get a Cat-Scan. This book was amazing the way she portreyed what happenned in such detial was amazing. The conversations were great so what if she repeated things it still made it a great book. So if I were you I would definately read this book. I've read in this year and last year alone about two-hundred books and this book has got to be in the top twenty of my my favourites. Some of my favourite's are J.R.R Tolkien with Lord of The Rings and Jules Verne with twenty thousand leagues under the sea so I've got a pretty good taste in books as you can see.
Rating: Summary: Convergence had its moments... Review: Unfortunately, moments were all it did have. The plot is pretty stereotypical-- five people, each talented in a different element (either spirit, earth, air, fire or water) to be chosen in a group called the Blending. As I mentioned before, Convergence definitely has its moments. Scenes of Tamrissa and Jovie with their little chocolate party and the way the characters helped each other face down their old nemeses were enjoyable. However, combined with dull, DULL repetitions of the same event from five perspectives, some truly appalling sex scenes, the good parts were hopelessly outnumbered. All in all, if you like bodice-ripping scenes better suited for a romance, five hundred repetitions and have low expectations, Convergence should be moderately enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: DULL and TYPICAL Review: I have to admit this book IS horrible. Sure, the cover art is pretty and the paper was nice, but the words themselves didn't make me want to keep on reading. Green is a rather typical writer, it's a surprise she's even getting published. PASS.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't Wait to Put it Down Review: I forced myself to read the first 100 pages. After the fifth character repeated the exact same scenario as the others I had enough. I can see that might be a way to churn out prose rather rapidly, taking the same story and rehashing it within the same book over and over again, but it is impossible to read. If after plodding through 100 pages of a fantasy and nothing interesting happens that even remotely catches ones imagination its time to scrap the whole project. Save your money, don't read this.
Rating: Summary: It's like someone kept rewinding an episode of Melrose Place Review: What a tedious book. Who wants to read the same thing repeated 5 times with the only changes being stupid character problems that seem like scenes out of a bad Melrose Place episode. It was totally pathetic. I've read this and the second one so far and in my opinion, they both could've been compressed into only half a book. What a waste. I was hoping at least the second book would be different but I definately won't be reading the third book.
Rating: Summary: Intriguing start to great series! Review: I love this book! The plot is really strong and the end is so suspenseful that you should have the second book on hand. Characters are lovable, stereotypical and slightly cardboard with the exception of Tamrissa. (How come they all have to be gorgeous and talented?) If only Sharon hadn't repeated so many practically identical scenes! Oh, a word of advice, don't start reading this series till the fifth book is out (July 99) or prepare to have a couple sleepless nights! Not worth 5 stars but definitely worth a read!
Rating: Summary: Excellent book that leaves questions and you wanting answers Review: Really 4 1/2 stars but not available. The novel Convergence is one of the few fantasy novels that I have read that have captured me and wanted me to read more. There are signs or repetition sure, but they are told from different characters view points which adds to the drama of the book. It is not the greatest tale ever told but there is so much left out that I am hoping that the second in the series answers those questions that I have about what will happen.
