Summary: Absolutely brilliant
Review: This book is a major turning point in the 8th Doctor novels. It lays down the groundwork for some huge and far reaching story arcs later on. But a good thing about this novel is that it is very enjoyable and funny as well. I dont know if it was intended to be funny, but some parts of this story I thought were hilarious. I think it is good that a novel as important as this one can also find the time to be light hearted without detracting from the serious issues at stake. But I would only advise reading this if you have a fairly good backgroung knowledge on Dr Who. If you're new to the series then this is not good book to start on because after several chapters you'll be completely lost. But if you know your stuff when it comes to Dr Who then I would most definitely recommend this novel.

Summary: The Best Doctor Who book ever!
Review: This is one of the most intriguing novels that I have read in any form. It does help to have more than just a passing interest in Doctor Who to understand the complex story, but I do believe the plot and prose will reward even those who have never read a Doctor Who novel before. The story really is delightful, with one huge central twist which I won't reveal here. The villain of the piece could hardly be described as melodramatic, or power hungry, he's just out for a fast buck as he auctions 'The Relic'. With an absorbing cast of bidders, this book never disappoints. 'Alien Bodies' is longer than most Doctor Who novels, but I'd be very much surprised if anyone could find a wasted word. Kevin from Ottakars, Slough, U.K.

Summary: Don't miss this one!
Review: This is the best Doctor WHO novel in the BBC's eighth Doctor series. You'll regret it if you miss this book: you'll miss a good look into Gallifrey's distant future (and the Doctor's), you'll miss the Type 103 TARDIS, Gallifrey's war in the future, an auction influencing the destiny of several time-dwelling species, and you'll miss the return of the all-powerful KROTONS.

Admittedly, I haven't liked Lawrence Miles' previous novels (I really disliked "Christmas on a Rational Planet"), but this novel is completely engrossing. The internet polls for Doctor WHO novels rank this novel as the BEST in the series so far.

Incidentally, the copy that Amazon sent me has 313 pages, not 288 as listed.

Summary: Did I miss something?
Review: This was the first of the BBC novels since "The Eight Doctors" which I didn't enjoy. Sam and the Doctor don't really seem to work well together in this story. And three quarters of the way through the book, it occurred to me that nothing had actually HAPPENED yet, and probably wouldn't before the end. There's a gratuitous chase, and lots of flashbacks. There's a new alien race which has potential, but it's a little confusing just what they can do or have done. The Shift is interesting. And in the end, it turned out that my prediction was correct and nothing actually did happen in the novel. There are a few Twin Peaks references (the soldier character keeps saying that things "aren't what they seem") if you're into that. This book is not a must-have for the casual Who reader (if there is such a thing).
