Summary: A little too sermony; but still good.
Review: I fully enjoyed the movie Joshua which led me to buy this book on tape. I am glad I have it. It only cost me a few bucks; but now, these were my disappointments: I thought the movie Joshua had a too propagandic ending and thought that it should have been cut. The book was far worse, and actually on occasion out right interrupted the story line to tell the reader what was right and what was wrong about religion and life in a sermon style. Okay so that was my first big disappointment. Second was: this spun a whole fairy tale world around Joshua that was so outrages I couldn't even believe it for a fairy tale. But I still did and still do enjoy the book just be ware of some propaganda.

Summary: Simple, yet inspiring.
Review: I have read the entire Joshua series and can say that, while not terribly cerebral, they give me what few other books can - HOPE! Jesus returns to earth and begins his ministry simply - one person at a time.

It makes me wonder how I would react if I encountered him. I can only pray that my actions would be welcoming and loving.

Summary: Girzone does it again!!!
Review: I have read the entire series of Joshua and found this to be as inspiring as the rest. Father Girzone brings wonderful insight into what Jesus's original message was for all of us. He shows us that so much of what divides us as a nation and a world are barriers, such as religious denominations and practices and beliefs created by man to control man. If we would look at Jesus's teachings and apply them to our everyday lives so much of the pain and suffering and problems we all face would get resolved or not exist at all. As Joshua shows us we make things more difficult than what they need to be. Greed and selfishness are the rule today and our young people are learning those lessons well. Girzone makes you stop and consider how would God see my behavior or attitude right now. He makes you think about how the world would view Christ if he did come back now and live as he did centuries ago, simply and selflessly. This author makes Christ and his teachings almost toucha! ble. I hope there will be more in the series. I know I look at the world differently now because of the way Father Girzone has presented looked into the heart of man and of our Father.

Summary: I liked the way he handles his problems
Review: I haven't exactly finished the whole book, but what I have read is some of the best stuff. The author did a remarkable job on telling the story and I look foward to reading the rest of the Joshua series.I am only 13 but I can still say it is a good book even tough most people think kids shouldn't get thier own just because they are children but I did like, and my mom is very much looking forward to reading the book when I am done.

Summary: Please don't miss the point!!!
Review: In reading some of the other reviews about the "Joshua" books, I was dismayed to see people commenting on grammatical errors and the "lack" of technical expertise in some of the characters.Don't you realize that the points of the story are to love, forgive, help, heal, and respect each other? This is not a series that means to slander anyone's belief in organized religion but only tries to teach the message that sometimes the rules and regulations aren't enough to comfort God's children when they need help and understanding. If the people of the world would take care of each other and share the gifts that God has given, maybe we wouldn't have the problems that we do. And if the only faults some can find with this message are grammatical ones, maybe some are looking too hard for those faults!

Summary: Heartwarming and insightful!
Review: Joe Girzone does it again. Joshua touches the hopelessness of inner city life and brings it to life. His ability to coalesce segmented and diverse ethnicities, both rich and poor, and bring the message of Love, culminates in a heartwarming new beginning for this inner city neighborhood. The Spirit of God permeates the whole book and gives you much food for thought on how we might behave.

Summary: Great story...poor writing
Review: The Joshua series was suggested to me by a friend, so I bought the book. Joshua and the City is the only one I've read thus far and I must admit that I don't know if I'm willing to read any more. The premis of the book is fantastic...Christ on Earth...it could make a great story...however, the writing is terrible. The way these inner city kids talk is not very convincing, they talk with more proper English than I do...and I've found several editing mistakes throughout the book. Great story...very poor writing and editing.
