Summary: A little-used subject in Star Trek
Review: "The Riddled Post" delves into a subject Star Trek authors don't use very much; murder investigation, and a side of murder investigation that nobody in Star Trek uses; forensic science. I really got into this book. I love mysteries, and I love Star Trek. When the two are combined, I sit up and take notice. I liked "The Vulcan Academy Murders" and "Contamination", but those murder investigations didn't use forensics. This novel gets heavy into science in general, but then again, this is Star Trek; what else would you expect? Very well written, and highly recommended.

Summary: Another fun (if not too special) SCE adventure
Review: After the last three SCE books (Cold Fusion and the two-part Invincible), this is a fairly simple, straightforward story. The crew of the Da Vinci arrive at an outpost where almost everyone has been killed, presumably by whatever riddled almost all the buildings with holes (hence the title). Their mission: figure out what caused the damage. It's interesting watching Sonya Gomez and her team piece together the clues until they discover the solution to the mystery. However, while entertaining as an intellectual excercise, this story lacks the suspense and tension of the earlier stories. There's no conflict, so the reader is left waiting for the answers to be revealed, without any real sense that any of it matters.

On the other hand, readers following this series from month to month will enjoy seeing the character-oriented subplots advanced, while new ones begin to take shape. And, like previous SCE adventures, the relatively short length keeps the pace quick, perhaps more in line with televised Star Trek episodes than the novels. For regular readers, there isn't enough wrong with this story to make it truly disappointing, but newcomers will find better starting places for this series than this particular story.

Summary: Not up to the standard of some other SCE stories...
Review: but not bad either. If you read these for the characters then by all means give it a go. The stories not bad, just not as interesting as previous and subsequent books.

Summary: Just average
Review: The SCE series was going well beginning from SCE 4 to SCE 8. Very good stories in that bunch. This one falls a little short compared to them. The story is about an outpost that is destroyed. The SCE has to figure it out. It's a good story but the ending was anti-climatic and there was little action at all in the story. The story ends with a little mystery that it might continue in a later story but really holds little interest for me. As the reviewer stated the characters do continue to grow but not really much.

Summary: A nice mystery - SCE style
Review: What has caused an entire outpost to be destroyed? What are the strange holes that have appeared throughout the station? These are the questions that this novel poses. Fortunately the crew of the daVinci are there to puzzle out the solution. This was a great sci-fi story that kept me riveted to the end.
