Rating: Summary: Never read a sequel first!! Review: Having read and enjoyed several of Ms. Lindsey's books, I looked forward to her newest - only to find I was in the middle of a story instead of the beginning. This book seems to be a "doublemint" novel (two-books-in-one) and I'm not sure if either story benefits. I love the characters - Brittany and Dalden are absolutely perfect for each other, but I was left with the feeling that I would have liked one story about their meeting on earth and Dalden's delightful adventures with our unusual species to be separate from the story of Brittany's adjustment to life elsewhere. I also wanted to give her a kick occasionally - has this woman made it to twenty-eight without running into any Star Trek episodes? Not even Star Wars? Please - get real!! As always, Ms. Lindsey's stories are polished and well thought out; I suppose I enjoyed reading about these two so much I'd have liked their tale to have been told in two parts. Memo to self: Always check to see if book have just bought is part of a series!!!
Rating: Summary: This is a fantastic book Review: This is a fantastic book. I was so pleased to have the story continue. Warrior's Woman is one of my favorites and this is a wonderful continuation to the series. I couldn't put it down. I love Brittany. I love the fact that she is not some stupid 18 year old, but is a woman with a mind of her own and real, attainable goals. And Dalden...WOW. He reminds me so much of Challen and I love Challen. I love the way that Johanna makes her heros, strong and tender at the same time. Dalden is perfect. I wish the book had gone on longer, with more action on Sha'Ka ran, but that is the only critisizim that I have and that only because I didn't want the story to end. I hope that Johanna continues this series. Maybe with Falon's brother next. Johanna is my favorite author and this book again proves why. Thank you Johanna Lindsey for making me able to see and feel the romance!
Rating: Summary: Not one of her best Review: Heart of a Warrior, while it had many creative pieces, was only an okay book. Lindsey's most recent books have all had a feeling of hurriedness, as if she were writing just to have written a book, and this one was no exception. The characters were decent enough (although those in her last book The Heir were better developed) and the plot was interesting enough, it just didn't all mesh together. The ending was especially hurried, and for that reason altogether unbelievable. Basically, this felt like a second draft rather than a finished product, and I wish Lindsey would have spent more time and effort in smoothing this book into a work of art like all her older novels. It's worth checking out eventually, but I would save my money and just check it out of the library or wait for paperback.
Rating: Summary: Johanna Lindsey at Her Best Review: As soon as I heard there would be another "Warrior" book, I planned to buy it the day it was available. I'm glad I did. Ms. Lindsey has once again delivered characters you feel you know intimately, and fun, fun, fun! This is the most enjoyable book I have read in months. Bravo Johanna!
Rating: Summary: Not her best, but I'm glad Dalden got a story Review: I had extremely high hopes when I heard that Dalden was getting his own story. Warrior's Woman and Keeper of the Heart are two of my favorite books by Johanna Lindsey. Though this book was good, I felt a bit disappointed. After experiencing the explosive passion of Tedra and Challen and Shanelle and Falon, these characters didn't strike the same spark..also I would highly recommend that anyone reading this book, read the first two beforehand, else some major confusion may set in. Dalden heads to modern day earth in search of Jorran (a character from Keeper of the Heart) who has stolen mind altering rods from Sunder (also from Keeper of the Heart) in hopes that he can take over the planet. Brittany, a statuesque, construction working red head, first encounters Dalden at the local mall as he is attempting to speak with the mayor about Jorran's plan. His expression indicating that he is highly uncomfortable in the confined area, Brittany whisks him aside. Equally smitten, Dalden and Brittany converse with the help of his mother's Mock II computer, Martha (first introduced in (Warrior's Woman). Deciding that Brittany can be useful in the endeavor to capture Jorran, Dalden hires her to help him spot outsiders in her small town, while keeping his exact origins secert. Jorran and his cronies are caught with little effort or time, and I am left wondering what I actually read that took up the first 200 pages. After the capture of Jorran, Martha transfers Brittany to the ship (as Dalden has claimed her for his lifemate earlier on). The next several chapters are of everyone, mainly Martha, doing their best to convince Brittany that the ship is real, Dalden is really from another planet, and everything isn't some elaborate hoax. Even landing on the moon doesn't budge Brittany, and her stubbornness is getting very frustrating at this point. Even upon arriving on his planet, Brittany is want to believe that it is some fantastical movie set in another country. Dalden, frustrated with his lifemate's refusal to believe in his home, takes her out on what is basically a camping trip so they can be alone. Not obeying the rules to stay in the tent while he is away hunting, she is attacked by an animal. Tracking Brittany by her voice, Jorran (his home planet declared war on Sha-Ka-Ra for his mistreatment during his trip home) who is enamored, finds her and gets her to a meditech and she is fine. Dalden then finds himself having to administer a warrior's punishment (sexual frustration). Though this was a huge part of the story in the first 2 books, this one barely makes anything of it. They admit they love each other, he shows her the land where he wants her to build their house, all is well, the end. As I mentioned before, it would be a very good idea to read the first two books before starting on this one. It will clear things up and probably make it a more enjoyable experience...it will also show you what kind of passion existed between Tedra and Challen (Dalden's parents) and Shanelle and Falon (his twin sister). I couldn't really find any reason that Brittany was drawn to Dalden other than he was taller than she was. All in all, it was a good book, it just seemed to lack her usual passion. Easily read and something anyone who has enjoyed the other books would like to read, however.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!!! Review: I loved this book. I really enjoyed the past books regarding the Ly-San-Ters and hope Johanna Lindsey puts out more. This Story is about Brittany and Dalden. Dalden is Tedra and Challens son and is just as stubborn and set in his ways as his father was in the Warriors Woman. Dalden was sent to earth to look for Jorran whom had stolen the altering rods from another planet. Jorran plans to make earth his kingdom. When Dalden meets Brittney at the mall while the town Mayor was speaking the attraction starts. Dalden needs to convince Brittney to help him find anyone who talks funny and doesn't fit into her town. This book was funny in the right spots. When Dalden claims Brittney as his lifemate, she doesn't realize it and thinks this is all some sort of elaborate project to make her think they aren't from her planet. It is fun to watch how she explains away anything she sees or hears about them and see them try to convince her. I read this book in 1 1/2 days. So when is the next book and will we ever see one on Fallons friend?
Rating: Summary: Mixed Feelings Review: Heart of a Warrior left me with mixed feelings. It is a good story that could have been great. I have read all of Johanna Lindseys books. Usually, I would describe them as intense, unable to put down. This book left me wanting more. It seems incomplete. The relationship between Brittany and Dalden is not exploerd in great detail. They were more like secondary characters. A computer named Martha seemed more like the main character. Also, some of the major moments were left out. Ms.Lindsey would build up to them, and then move on to another part of the story. On the positive side, This story is very easy to visualize. the settings and people are described in great detail. Also, we get to revisit Challen and Tedra from the first novel in this series. Overall, don't expect the intersity associated with this author. However, as a light fun read this book is fine.
Rating: Summary: A Delightful Read! Review: "Stars, I hope the female you finally want for yourself isn't Sha-Ka'ani, and that she never gives you any peace!" In Heart of a Warrior, Shanelle Van'yer's wish comes true when her twin brother, Sha-Ka'ani warrior Dalden Ly-San-Ter meets independent California girl Brittany Callaghan! In the third installation of the Ly-San-Ter family saga, the evil King Jorran (Keeper of the Heart) has stolen a box of Sunderian mind-altering rods, which he intends to use to take over another planet. Dalden follows Jorran light years into uncharted space to the planet Earth. Dalden, who is accompanied by Shanelle, her lifemate Falon, and his mother Tedra's brash, free-thinking Mock 2 computer Martha, learns that Jorran has landed in Bayview, California. While looking for Jorran in a local mall, an overwhelmed Dalden meets Brittany, a six-foot tall knockout who is immediately drawn to the gorgeous warrior. He recruits the beautiful carpenter to help him locate Jorran. Brittany is more than willing to help the handsome foreigner, but immediately gets more than she bargained for. But neither the attempted government takeovers nor the vast differences in their cultures can keep these two lifemates apart. Romance fans will not be disappointed with this book - however, I strongly advise people to read Warrior's Woman and Keeper of the Heart so that they have a better understanding of the Ly-San-Ter's background. But all-in-all, Heart of a Warrior is a funny, delightful read.
Rating: Summary: What a book! Review: I really like the fact that we got to go back to Tedra and her family. It was a great book! I thought having put the Earth in the story was great and made the charcters more real. I would recommend this book to any Warrior Heats fan.
Rating: Summary: I Still Believe "The Heir" Is Her Greatest Recent Work Review: alright, let's first dismiss with the formalities. There was a great deal of speculation that this was Dalden Ly-San-Ter's own story (Son of Tedra DeArr/Ly-San-Ter "Warrior's Woman" and Sister to Shanelle Ly-San-Ter/Van'yer "Keeper of the Heart") and it is indeed that. The Ly-San-Ter family, this being the third novel involving them, live on a barbaric world where Warrior's rule. But Dalden's mother, Tedra, being from a highly futuristic planet (you have to read these books to see the inventions Ms. Lindsey comes up with that the people of Tedra's world enjoy!) where equality of the sexes is taken for granted, the added element of her different ways plus her powerful companion computer Martha makes for some entertaining reading and great heroines. It is also at first glance the dream come true of all Lindsey fans, a person from Earth participating in a lead role of this saga, namely the heroine (for don't we all want to imagine ourselves in her place?). It starts out well with Ms. Lindsey's customary & appreciated bringing everyone up to speed who has not followed the saga. We then meet Brittany Callaghan, an independent, smart, and of course beautiful woman (she's 28 by the way when Dalden is only 21!) from Kansas of all places that lives in Northern California. Another unexpected delight, was that she's a *carpenter* and barely makes a comfortable living by saving all the money she makes. That is so different from Ms. Lindsey's usual heroines who are normally from rich or well named families and are usually scholarly, well-read women. But her being a blue collared worker as in this case certainly stands out as one of a kind among all of her books. Brittany has the task of helping Dalden recover some Altering Rods (remember those from the Sunderians in "Keeper of the Heart"?) that Jorran of Century III (remember him too, the chap that cut Falon to pieces in the same novel?) stole from the Sunderians to help him take over Earth. The books is all one would expect of Ms. Lindsey (I've read all 38 novels and own half in Hardback), sexy, funny and full of the romantic intrigue that melts our hearts and men that we wish our own husbands and boyfriends could perhaps act like if they could not possibly look like. But I did have two small problems and that may only have been brought about because of the great anticipation i had for this books release: The steamy, intimate scenes were rather short and far and few between (although i usually skip over the really hot and heavy stuff on a first reading to get to the next part of the romantic intrigue, on a slower reading, they are better appreciated). The other problem was Brittany's absolute refusal to believe that Dalden was from a different world despite the overwhelming evidence in his favor (meditechs, etc). The refusal lasts half the book almost to the end and although they discover good reasons for it, it does border on annoying at times. Still, despite these *minor* glitches that were probably caused by my own jealousy of this fictional character (can you believe that? but I assure you, in NY there aren't guys half as good looking or worth half the trouble we go through), the book is definitely worth a buy or at least a read (although my feelings on the last two novels have fallen short of those for "The Heir").
