Rating: Summary: Johanna, Johanna, Johanna, what is happening?! Review: Another disappointment! First, with "the heir" and now this book. I think her imagination needs a "jump" because it's as she's running out of ideas and now the stories are getting too bland, not enough romance and just too many characters and plots. Just keep simple Johanna, the way you used to do.
Rating: Summary: You got to be kidding Lindsey!! Review: I don't know what is wrong with her imagination lately but it seems "the well is running dry". I was gritting my teeth dying to finish this novel. I didn't care for any of the characters. The only one I remembered was Tedra and I don't remember her being so high-stronged from the other novel. Either Lindsey writes with more interesting plots, change the sceneries or just stop writing for awhile and hopefully from the absence she'll get inspired again and tell great stories. Sorry but this book is lack-luster!
Rating: Summary: heart of a warrior Review: Just a quick note to say this book isn't associated with "You Belong To Me". They are two different worlds and two different writing styles for Johanna Lindsey. I love Johanna Lindsey and buy all of her books even this one but I am not into futuristic types of novels and that is what this one is. For those who enjoy these types this is the book for you! Have a GREAT Read!!
Rating: Summary: Okay at best... Review: Because of Ms. Lindsey's writing skills, I expected more out of this book than I got. The characters were okay, I liked them both and they had potential. But their interactions with each other seemed a little "sterile." In other words, the strong feelings of excitement and longing you typically expect to see in a romance novel, just weren't there. Maybe that can be attributed to the fact that Brittany wasn't sure about what/whom she was dealing with. Sure, she was attracted to Dalden, but his claims of being from another planet seemed to make her a little cautious in her dealings with him. ...and there went the fireworks in this romance. The other characters, that sometimes irritating computer that acts as an advisor/interpretor/etc., Dalden's parents, and the alien Dalden had set out in search of, all added to the story. But unfortunately, even their presence didn't make it rise to the level of being a captivating story. I did like the other-world building. The planet seemed interesting and their philosophy on life could definitely add some sparks to a romance novel dealing with a person that doesn't agree with their ways or their way of thinking. I think following a character as she discovers the differences in the two planets, as Brittany began to do in this novel, could prove interesting. In sum, because this was a romance novel, I expected a few more sparks than there were. I wouldn't recommend this book as one for a person just discovering Ms. Lindsey's work. Try something else first; she really is a good writer that can snatch you up into the world of her characters. Unfortunately, this book isn't proof of that fact.
Rating: Summary: What happened to Johanna Lindsay ? Review: This book made almost no sense to me ! I hadn't realized this book was one of a series of futuristic books, and perhaps that caused some of my confusion. However, I've been a big fan of Johanna Lindsay's other books---dating all the way back to reading "The Windflower" in college ! I found this book to be confusing and the use of language was just too 'contrived'. The wise-cracking Martha (a "HAL" type computer") was annoying and even main character, Brittany's dialogue seemed to 'pushed' into 'hip' speech. The story simply didn't flow well, the 'attempts' at jocularity for dialogue seemed 'forced' and the entire story was just a grand disappointment. While I haven't read other science fiction, I am not 'against' it as a genre. I just didn't think this particular book had that special magic so prevalent in so many Johanna Lindsay books. Take my advice...re-read anything in her 'set in the west' novels (like "Angel" or "Savage Thunder") or her regency novels. Don't bother with this one !
Rating: Summary: Disappointing... Review: I own every Johanna Lindsey romance and have never been as disappointed as I am right now (I just finished reading Heart of a Warrior). I was skeptical about futuristic romances from the start but Warrior's Woman won me over. Now I have reverted to my original conclusion. A lot of the other reviews have complained about Martha the computer, but I thought Martha was the best part of this book and that is VERY sad. Brittany and Dalden's characters were never developed nor was their relationship. I buy romances for the romance, which this book was sadly lacking. Not only was there no romance, there was also no passion. The plot was, in a word, 'stupid'. There were major holes which should have been filled, or at least addressed. (If Brittany is so close to her family, won't they be worried sick over the fact that she just disappers for years at a time?) Throughout the book some scenes were left unfinished and the ending was rushed and completely unsatisfying. I eagerly await the next Lindsey book so that it can hopefully wipe this disappointment from my mind. Ms. Lindsey, next time go back to what you do best: HISTORICAL romance.
Rating: Summary: Boooooooooring Review: I love Ms. Lindsey and eagerly wait for her new book to come out. This one was a major disappointment. The computer, Martha was annoying. I'm glad I didn't spend any money for it. I got it as rental from the local library. It's been left on my nightstand from day one. I tried to read it a couple of times but couldn't get into it.
Rating: Summary: Heart of a Warrior Review: This book was boring, little to no connection or content of previous books, Warrior Woman and You Belong To Me. Wait for the paperback. I have always valued Lindsey books, but with this one I believe I will trade.
Rating: Summary: WAIT FOR THE PAPERBACK EDITION! Review: If you're a die-hard Lindsey fan and feel you just have to buy this book, at least wait for the paperback. The price of the hardback copy is too much considering the story is just okay. If you haven't read "Warrior's Woman" (or if if has been a long time since you read it), make sure you read it first. It will help make this book a little more enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointed Review: I have read all of Johanna Lindsey's book and have loved each and every one of them, except this book. I hated it. I kept trying to pick it up and I found myself rereading lines because much of it made no sense and I did not care about these characters. Save your money and buy something else!
