Summary: Filled with silly Cliches
Review: Ah, the average pretty princess who claims to be noble. The same man who's handsome and brave and the king of everything. I'm pretty sick of all these chiches, all these books are like carbon-copies of one another. I am hoping fantasy authors will somehow find something different to write about. Blah, this book was like any other.

This is one that is easily forgotten.

Summary: This is wonderful
Review: Alanna write this story as if she were breathing life into the characters with each word. It is an entralling page turner that I couldn't put down until completed.

I HIGHLY Recommend this book to anyone that gets a kick out of a good fantasy novel.

Summary: Destined to be re-read again and again!
Review: Even the most selective of readers will find they enjoy Ms. Morland's writing. The characters come alive and react in a realistic manner. The writing is so enthralling that you want to leap in the story and help! Once I started this book, I stayed up late in the night to finish it. I couldn't put it down. The highest of recommendations for this book. I can hardly wait until her next book comes out!

Summary: Terrible! Horrid and Boring Story
Review: How much more underdeveloped could a book get? I wanted to punch the characters in the face for being so weak and pitiful, I pitied them to the point that I didn't care about them anymore. From page one I wasn't interested, until the laste page I was worn out from trying to finish.

Never again will I read a book with so little reviews and a book by an amateur of fantasy.

Summary: A fantastic read!
Review: I bought this book because of the author's name. The main character in the Song of the Lioness series, one of my favorites, is named Alanna. I loved this book. The plot was intriuging, the characters lifelike. I want a sequel! As soon as I finished this book, I made all my friends read it--and they all loved it too. I read fantasy all the time, and this book particularly stands out.

Summary: Good despite minor flaws
Review: I enjoyed this book. I rarely finish a book if I find it slow moving and since I finished this one that says something. I enjoyed the plot line and found it quite original. The main character, Varian, was pledged to serve this evil god by his father and finds himself in a terrible fix. Since he is a were-leopard, the evil god takes control of Varian's were-body once in a while and forces him to do some not-very-nice things. I could tell that the author had the eventualy outcome in mind when she wrote the story but I got the feeling that she just wasn't sure how to make it work. I found it hard to feel sympathetic towards Varian (even though he was definetely a nice guy) I just didn't buy the excuse of having to sacrifice the woman he loved to save "his people" (don't worry I'm not giving anything away it is all on the back of the book). But I still found the book enjoyable. The author included some nice subtleties that at the time seemed insignificant to the plot but turned out to be important. Unfortunately the meaning wasn't reveiled as expertly as the execution was. But I still say "bravo" so Alanna Morland for the book. I enjoyed the original storyline and descriptions. It seemed to me to be writen like a movie. You could imagine all of this happening on a movie screen and the plot seemed to flow like that of a movie. This is a good read and I will look forward to more books by this author and watch her progress.

Summary: Fantastic!!!!
Review: I got this book because it fell off the shelf at the used book store. I thank the forces of gravity! This book is wonderful! The plot was original, the characters alive. I read fantasy all the time and this is most certainly on my recomended list.

Summary: Finished it in one day
Review: I picked this book up a month ago for a little light reading sometime - WOW, was I ever surprised! It was engrossing enough that I finished it in a day. This is an enjoyable book in a mythos fantasy style. Yes, similar things have been done before, but this is a storytelling style, a hero with a true moral conflict and the very human choices to be made. Yes, it was a fast read, mainly due to a well paced plot that didn't bog down too much in unnecessary description or overkill. Yes, it could be better, but it was still very enjoyable and a great first novel. If you like old-style storytelling of gods and heroes, you'll like this one.

Summary: a good read
Review: I really liked this book. I wasn't to sure at first, but after reading the first chapter I was hooked. It was not a deep reflective insight into that world, but who wants that? It kept up a good pace and kept me interested. I thought that it could have flowed just a little smoother. I would have like to have heard more about the king and the slave. maybe a sequel?

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: a must read for fantasy fans
Review: I was surprised that a first book could be so compelling. I usually do not read fantasy but this one is especially well written and kept me turning pages in a hurry to help the hero win out over the Evil One. (And I'm not just saying this because I'm the author's Mom.)
