Summary: Riveting and thought provoking!
Review: To say this is the first novel by this author, all I can say is, I'll be looking for other books by him. This is an excellent book. It grabbed my attention early on and held it until the end. I loved the way the author blended facts and fiction to arrive at a possible answer to the "missing link" question. The fact that his answer is plausible really has me thinking. And the best part is that while you read and learn, you're also very much entertained by the story. The book has it all, action, suspense, romance, and danger. I loved it!

Summary: Very Thought Provoking and Nerve Racking...
Review: Our science class was made to read a science fiction book and many stayed away from this one because of the length. What drew me to it was the content- the challenge to darwinism and religion without actually saying that it's all bull. An engaging story that, though it's starts out quite slow picks up speed at a lightning pace and provides a sad but satisfying ending that makes you wonder if this book is all too true...

Summary: out of this world
Review: fabulous. simply fabulous. there is nothing like a novel with a gripping story that at the same time challenges you to question truth. for any who battle with creation/evolution...this is a must read!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Riveting, thought-provocing -- "wow...it could be true!"
Review: First of all Becker's book is a a great story, smacking of "Raiders of the Lost Ark." However, the icing on the cake is that it's much more than a "tall tale." The archeological content has been thoroughly researched, and one soon realizes that Becker's thesis is much more than sci-fi. There could be come real answers to man's origin woven into this adventure! Great reading. Great learning!

Summary: Thought provoking -- Like it or not.
Review: Having read the book first, before reading all of the reviews posted, I must say I agree with most of them. It may be hokey in places, the science may be questionable, and the author may have a "hidden agenda" (I suspect getting a movie deal, and not creationism), but who cares? It is a wonderful read. I try to read at least one science-based fiction book (versus science fiction) a week. This is one of the best I have read in a long, long time.

The fact that people are so passionate about it -- mostly 5 stars or 1 (some want 0) stars, says something about it. Becker is a good writer, and I look forward to his next book.

Summary: Wow! I literally could not put this book down.
Review: I was not only spell-bound with the high-energy plot, but I found myself questioning assumptions I've held since I took my first anthropology course in 1975. And not only could I not put this book down, I was afraid to do so. Every time I did, my wife would take it away from me. It's the first adventure book that we have read together in our marriage!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Propaganda Fiction
Review: Becker's novel is actually a thesis about creationism wrapped in a cheesy adventure novel. There are so many half-starts, you have to wonder if this was some undergraduate Creative Writing 101 project. For example, Becker takes pains to tell us how an insignificant background character was molested as a child--with no relevance to the novel whatsoever. Beyond the thesis, the novel was sloppy, cheesy, and gratuitous.

Summary: Wonderful! And other words for the wise......
Review: I absolutely loved this book. I read it in three sittings-- a record for me because I'm usually so busy. I was shocked that anyone could have given the same book a bad review-- but after reading someone else's sidenote, I have to agree with one of the other readers--- IT'S THE SAME GUY! Please, please, please, dir sir-- save the personal vendetta or channel it into something more productive-- like saving the rainforest or something. My husband worked for 22 years for the FBI analyzing writing samples-- and he agrees(without you, dear sir, mentioning in one of your own reviews that it wasn't your first)-- over six of those reviews are written by the same tortured soul. I will not repeat his candid personality profile of the individual, because it's a little frightening-- and folk wisdom teaches us if we don't have something nice to say...... At any rate, I think the characters in the book were dynamic and engaging-- and I felt the book raised some interesting questions. It will make a fantastic movie one day!

Summary: A Winner!
Review: Three of my favorite authors gave glowing quotes for this novel-- Nelson De Mille, Clive Cussler, and Tony Hillerman. So naturally I picked it up. Thanks for the tip gentleman! One of the best books I've read all year!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Wonderfully told story!
Review: This is a great debut. I give the book the highest of accolades. While it won't win any fiction awards (commercial books never do) it will keep you engrossed from the first page until the last. This is a wonderful thriller. Do yourself a favor and disregard some of the "hate-mail" and read the synopsis-- and the legitimate reviews and I think you'll see that this book is worth adding to your library.
