Rating: Summary: I loved this book. It was awesome! Review: I think this book is a great thriller and it deserves a five star rating. I hope everyone will read this book. Thank- You
Rating: Summary: Good but scary! Review: The Cobra Event is, without a doubt, one of the scariest novels I've read this year. The events are very plausible, and the details of the virus's effects and the autopsies on the victims are quite graphic; definitely not for the squeamish! The action moves along at a good clip, as well. One word of advice: don't read this book over lunch!
Rating: Summary: Gripping, Suspensefull, and Wonderfully Written Review: A truly powerfull novel that will bring you to your knees for more. Preston has done his homework, and it shows in The Cobra Event. Biological Terrorism has never been so close to coming true. Some of the charachter development is a bit hopefull at most, but that is not what Preston wanted his novel to be remembered by. It shall be remembered for its fast paced, matter of fact, terrorizing words, which have evidence to back up. I recomend this book to anyone who thinks America is Invincible...IT IS NOT!!!
Rating: Summary: An excellent thriller that will make you look for symptoms! Review: A very, very good thriller. It will bring you to the mirror every time someone dies, looking for signs of the virus. This incredible piece of literature proves how defenseless we are against biological weapons.
Rating: Summary: An Action-Packed Thriller Based On Solid Research Review: Preston has done a remarkable job of researching the potentially catastrophic and realistic threat of biological warfare. This provides a fascinating backdrop to a brisk paced work of action fiction. His characters, while not very original, are credible enough to keep the level of versimilitude in tact. The descriptions of the potential effects of man-made viral weapons are spellbinding in intensity and nightmarish in impact. This is truly one of the most terrifying books I have ever read. It makes the average Clancy novel seem like "Hello Dolly" by comparison.
Rating: Summary: A Great First Fictional Book by Preston Review: I loved Prestons' The Hot Zone. Preston is an excellent writer. I believe the writer did what he set out to do when he wrote this book. Take the terrifying subject of viruses and use his knowledge to write a piece about the true possibilities that could be used with man made viruses. Terrifying because of the true nature used in this book. Preston knows his stuff in this field.
Rating: Summary: This is a great read!! It keeps you rivited. Review: You will not want to put this book down. The story reads likes tomorrows headlines.
Rating: Summary: This book was heart stopping, I finished it in 48 hours. Review: This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I was immediately overcome by the story and the characters. The story and factual history behind the events was a true learning and eye opening experience. The author has truly depicted the volatility of the times we all live in. It's frightening.
Rating: Summary: Disjointed, Hodgepodged, Forced Review: Just finished the book. It took a bit of doing. This is the first book by Richard Preston that I've read, (I understand that his other books are nonfiction) and as novels go, this one didn't click. The point-of-view could change in mid-paragraph, the subject could suddenly change without letting the reader in on it. I felt like the story could have been more to my liking if it had just been more cohesive.
Rating: Summary: Stick to journalism Richard Review: The technical details were interesting, particularly about the nature of the virus & its effects on the human body. A high gross-out rating if you like that stuff (I do). Unfortunately, the plot was stupid and predictable. The characters were paper thin and uninteresting. Some authors have a great feeling for people and human nature. Some don't. Preston definately falls into the latter category.
