Review: First and foremost let me say that I am a ravid McCaffrey fan, and I read all her SF. I don't think there is anyone else half as good in the SF field as a writer. However, I found many disturbing things about Nimisha's Ship, that in my opinion darkens its intrest. First of all, (and no disrespect to the author, but) I found the characters; Nimisha Boynaton-Rondymense, Cuiva, and their dam to be quite the opposite of what was displayed in the original, Coelura. For one thing the characters were all static and never really grew. Nimisha in particular held little flare, as far as growth and change go. She starts off adventurous, continues as a Teen as thus and at 18 seems like she's ready to take on the entire universe herself. The other main characters have similar problems, but seem to work past them. Near the end, Nimisha decides to marry and have children with an old stuffy marine(I'm sorry, but's the way it comes off). This is perhaps the most inexcusable of plot twists, because for one thing Nimisha really has no obligation to stay on Erehwon at all. To think that someone of her political and professionalism would simply throw caution to the wind and retire to some hell-begotten planet at such a young age is simply unbeilievable. Why would someone as sensible and business-minded as Nimisha decide to just 'give-up hope of survival' and start making a family in the hopes that someday, someone MIGHT decided to rescue them is proposterous when she has her own lightspeed vessel at her disposal. As well as sufficent suspended animation tubes for her own personal use. And while I'm on the topic, why didn't she take anyone with her in the first place? Makes little sense. In short, if you're looking for a good McCaffrey classic, I would be forced to suggest other good ones than this.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Vintage McCaffrey Review: We have come to expect strong females from McCaffrey. Nimisha and her daughter Cuiva are two more to add to the legion. Unlike most of her heroines Nimisha and Cuiva are technophiles, prodigys in engineering, space ship design, electronics, robotics etc. Thats the rub, the cause of the troubles these women face and the begining of the adventure. They resolve their immediate problems, but, like in the dragonrider, dragonsinger, crystal singer, freedom and yes Collura books you are left waiting for the sequal. How soon Anne?

Review: I actually got this book as an advance copy....I feel it is one of the most wonderful books Anne McCaffrey has written yet!! I'am a long time Dragon Rider fan and was amazed how diversified Ms.McCaffery's writing is! This book draws you in and takes you on a thrilling ride through Space to places unknown. A Fantastic read!! I recommend this to anyone who loves Anne McCafferys work!!! I LOVED IT!!!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Another winner from Anne McCaffrey! Review: It is a fabulous story, masterfully told with interesting characters and detailed scenery. Part of it has strong shades of the Doona series (learning to communicate with a new alien race), but written with much greater realism and sophistication; really shows Anne's development as a writer over the last 30+ years. The main plot is a bit slow to get going: the tale casually flows along for several chapters, written in a somewhat distanced, summarizing form which reminded me of some of Robin McKinley's writting. This is not at all a bad thing--just not what I'm used to from Anne. Once the tale picks up steam, it doesn't stop--just gets better and better. The final scene was so fitting and beautiful, I was laughing and giggling and grinning like a fool 'til the final words!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: How Disappointing Review: I love Anne McCaffrey's work and was glad to see a new direction. Until I started reading it. What I found was a family structure that seemed cobbled together from Mario Puzo's Godfather and Frank Herbert's Bene Gesserit. When I started finding elements of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and then Voyager, I had to put the book down. It's too much of bits and pieces strung together to try to resemble something original. It fails, badly. This is one manuscript that should have been relegated to the recycling bin.

It seems to me that you have really advertised my name quite a deal. It definitely makes me feel good about being the first Nimisha in this world and seeing my name get the great fame it desereves! I would not miss this opportunity to thank you bringing my name to fame. I have only one problem. (Believe me.) You have priced this book very cheap. I think it should have been a little more expensive! Jushta kidding! Congratulations for the good work! Keep it up!! Ciao! Nimisha Mahuvakar
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: How Anne writes her books, the focus is on Nimisha's Ship Review: I loved the book! I enjoyed reading about Nimisha's early years. So many times we don't get that background info 'first hand' and I love that sort of thing. I thought the way she kept the two planets totally separate was neat. My focus was on each situation and the characters involved not waffling back and forth. In fact the 'early years' seemed like a different book almost. The body heir and neck tattoo and the ceremony are another of my favorite things about the book. I'm glad that Anne expanded on that from THE COELURA. The characterizations were super (as always). That is one of the best parts of Anne's writing. I get to know the characters and their personalities. I look forward to another adventure in this universe!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Anne McCaffrey's new series is pure enjoyment Review: On Vega III, Lady Nimisha Boynton-Rondymense has lived an indulged life as befitting the daughter of Lord Tionel, owner of the Rondymense ship yards. Though Nimisha had just about everything she wants growing up, she enjoyed taking apart and rebuilding mechanical and robotic items. However, her idyllic existence abruptly ends when her father suddenly dies. To the shock of everyone, Nimisha takes charge of the family business, but most people accept the change in leadership. That is except Lord Vestin, who expected to inherit the ship yards. Nimisha continues to succeed with experimental models until a test flight goes astray, stranding her light-years from her home. Vestin, encouraged by his mother, sees the opportunity to obtain what he feel has always been rightfully his. All he has to is eliminate Nimisha's daughter, a chip off the old block. NIMISHA'S SHIPS is the opening novel in Anne McCaffrey's new science fiction series. The exciting story line has the usual McCaffrey thread of non-stop action running through it. Though Nimisha is a splendid lead protagonist, the villains do not come across as dangerous as readers expect from the Mistress of Pern. Still, a science fiction novel by the incompatible Ms. McCaffrey is always a winning treat and readers will relish and crave the next book. Harriet Klausner
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: "...................................." Review: Anne McCaffrey has done better. The book's heroine is perfect from the getgo, faces no challenges, and leads a perfect life(more or less). This work seems disjointed, leaving the possible culmination of a conflict with her sire's other child (Vestrin) in favor of a happily-ever-after-ending, literally on the opposite side of the galaxy. One must wonder if in the middle of writing it she decided to change the plot sructure, you can point to the spot where the two different elements diverge. I enjoyed it and have read it four times in the last six years, but it fails to compare to her other works. The only solace I find is in the possibility of another alien encounter in a sequel alluded to at the end with the mention of engine traces. Buy it, but don't count on it to enthral you.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: A hopeless dog Review: Follows a too much of a formula; problems are solved far to easily; the baddies are stupid and lazy and fade from the scene early; there is not even a climax. There is a huge amount of potential in this story, but it bubbles into the ooze with nary a whimper. Don't waste your money.
