Rating: Summary: Awesome concept, profound literary achievement Review: For non sci-fi readers, to put science fiction in the literary category may be a stretch and yet with this book, Mary Staton takes the reader to such profound depths of insight and appreciation for the possibilities of the language that the reader sits there stunned by the words on the page. In almost 40 years of reading this genre I have yet to see its equal. You have to think about the possibility of raising evolution another notch via "liquid information" and you have to ponder the great love each mentor has for his/her protege to begin to appreciate Staton's ideas. This is one definitely not to miss.
Rating: Summary: Atmospheric and enchanting - From the Legend of Biel. Review: From the Legend of Biel, by Mary Staton, is a book of incredible atmosphere. The reader will be taken on a thought-provoking voyage to a strange world where silence and serenity exude from the pages. The presentation is unusual at times which adds to the uniqueness of this wonderful book. I loaned my copy to a friend a few years ago and am desparately trying to find another. For anyone interested in Science Fiction, and even for those who might not be, this is a tremendous book well worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Passionate, Tender, Brilliant Review: If Mary Staton is out there, please, please, please send me an email. I have been a devout fan for years since reading these wonderful pages. This book is an immense literary achievement. It is the absorbing story of the development of consciousness told through through the birth process. I cannot explain it in words - the book has to be read, so get a copy if you can and free your mind - forever. Miss Staton, Please contact me!

Rating: Summary: Passionate, Tender, Brilliant Review: It's a shame that both this mind expanding book and author Mary Staton are impossible to find nowadays. Biel is tightly woven, smart and passionate. This sci fi novel was ahead of its time in the 70's and it still is.
Rating: Summary: A hypnotic meditation on the self as a part of the whole. Review: Mary Staton's From the Legend of Biel is a haunting story of suspended animation space travel and an encounter with an alien world's procreation technology.
In 2001-esque fashon, explorers from earth come out of deep freeze to find a planet with a single geometric structure upon it. Inside, a sophisticated birth process takes place.
Serene, disturbing, a little psychedelic and very thought-provoking, this book relates internal and external struggles of parenting and child bearing through the lens of a spiritually and technologically advanced alien civilization.
Biel is moving and introverted, quiet and yet very intense. Read it if you can find it.

Rating: Summary: A hypnotic meditation on the self as a part of the whole. Review: Mary Staton's From the Legend of Biel is a truly fulfilling book. Throughout the interactions between Biel and the parent/teacher/creator entity there exists always a sense of place - tranquil, serene, nurturing. Mary Staton conveys a sense of wonder and yearning for knowledge, but also an air of patience and expectation. I also loved this book the first time I read it, loaned it to a friend and then spent years searching for a replacement copy at used bookstores and garage sales. And yet, when I found a copy and reread the story, I did not hesitate to loan it out again...I just could not keep it to myself. (This time I got it back!)
