Rating: Summary: One of the best single novels from the Star Trek universe. Review: Back in early 1980's when Pocket books started issuing Star Trek novels, (even before they numbered them), Black Fire stood out as one of the best. Based on the then new premise of Spock as a savior of the Enterprise and the Federation.Brilliantly written, Black Fire stands out still in my mind as an exceptional rendition of a Stra Trek story (even after reading several hundred Star Trek universe novels over the years) Buy it if you can find it.
Rating: Summary: it is a good book, however, I am very picky about ST writing Review: Black Fire was published by Pocket Books, my copy says 1983, however it is numbered as #8, therefor, I do not believe that I have a first printing. I do have a local book store here that sells many of the ST out of print books, these books are used, but most are in good condition. I have the complete set of several different series of books. A total of well over 400 books, actually. If anyone needs titles, e-mail me, and I will check my book store for you! ktn29@excite.com
Rating: Summary: Best of the Best Review: Easily the best of the Star Trek books. It's just too bad that Sonni Cooper didn't write any of the movies. Unlike many other books that try to be episodes, Cooper went beyond the simple do-nothing formula and made a real adventure with a story that was much better than the average episode-wannabe book.

Rating: Summary: Hey, Theodore Sturgeon is wrong Review: Excited by a foreword by Theodore Sturgeon, I read this book. Dulled after it's conclusion, I wanted my money back. The book has all the old characters from the original series, but hardly any of the feel, regardless of what Sturgeon says in the forward. Save your money and watch the reruns on cable.
Rating: Summary: Back fire Review: I am a fan of Star Trek, mainly DS9 and Next gen. But I do not mind pulling out an original Trek novel and giving it a read. However this one is lost in warp space. The author seems to be having difficulty with Trek in general. The Characters I will admit must not be easy to do or the universe itself. But some do it better than others and this one just doesn't come together. The plot seems jumpy and put together rather than a smooth progression. The characters just don't seem right. If you have to have every Trek book then get it. Otherwise you may want to give it a miss.
Rating: Summary: Love It Review: I bought it back in 1983 when it was first published (yes the 1983 printing was the FIRST printing). I loved seeing how Spock's logic led him down a very unorthodox path and finally restored to his proper position on the Enterprise
Rating: Summary: An Absolute wonderfull example of early 'Trek storywriting Review: I first read this book after scrounging through the Star Trek novels in my local library. It looked interesting and I can only say that it was thoroughly enjoyed. A few hours of reading bliss. After reading it, I rushed to my local used sci-fi book store and bought a copy. Since then, I have probably read it about 8 or 9 times. It is DEFINANTLY worth a repeated reading. Five stars. A Star Trek or fantasy classic.
Rating: Summary: The Life and Times of Spock the Pirate Review: I loved this book, I read it about once every year. Spock in cloak-and-dagger mode is intriguing. As for an earlier comment,(SMALL SPOILER) his suicide attempt was, in fact, quite logical. He was crippled and his companions would not escape (and thereby warn the Federation) without him.(END SPOILER) As far as behaving as we would expect the characters do, I thought they did, especially the Spock-McCoy relationship. Nothing in the book was unreasonable, nothing insofar unreasonable as a lot of Star Trek V (the crew turning on Kirk for example) which is canon while Black Fire is not. BF is an excellent read, like a lot of the 80's ST novels like the Entropy Effect.
