Rating: Summary: Interesting concept, badly executed Review: There are dragons among us; dangerous, powerful beings that take human form, but can never truly fit in. That's the premise of "The Dragon Delasangre," and it's quite a good idea. But here's an idea of how bad this book is: I have something of an obsession with dragons, and I would *not* read it a second time. Troop tries to be Anne Rice, and falls flat on his face. Perhaps this is because Ms. Rice actually uses vampire myths for her tortured predators. Troop discards all dragon legendry, attempts to create his own, and fails miserably. So what we have are big green (yes, green; invariably green) flying lizards which *happen* to be able to shapeshift like Chinese dragons (but bear no other resemblance), and don't breathe fire or even spit venom. Their mating habits are altogether too human to be truly alien, but at the same time too alien to be human (or even believable). And they prey on humans--not because they *have* to; but because, as a physically superior species, they *can*. The protagonist (hero, or even antihero, does not fit), Peter Delasangre, starts out as a seemingly honorable member of a more-or-less amoral race. But he quickly becomes much like Troop has led us to expect of dragons, and ends up despicable even by the standards of his deplorable kind. If this transformation did not progress so quickly, or if the story meant to explain it were anything other than a gory soap opera, it might have been understandable; instead, it just prevents Delasangre from being in any way a sympathetic character. All in all, I have no idea how anyone could rate this higher than Anne McCaffrey's earlier work. If you want to read about dragons, almost *anything* is better than "The Dragon Delasangre."
Rating: Summary: The Dragon Delasangre-Alan F. Troop Review: This book grabs you and never lets go. I was glued to the pages. After you read this book, Puff the Magic Dragon and all the little "cartoon" Dragons will have a different meaning to you and you will find yourself looking upward to make sure you are not on the Delasangre feeding list! Great Job by Mr. Troop.
Rating: Summary: I Read It.It was GREAT! Review: This book is extremely well written and exciting. Peter DelaSangre's struggle between two worlds is depicted in a Miami setting that has your imagination spinning from page one. You find yourself not wanting to put it down. Excellent twists keep pages flowing. Kudos to Mr. Troop. Can not wait for the second DelaSangre "feeding time".

Yes the main character feed off humans but who cares, this is a book about dragons, and how they deal with living in the world today. anybody who loves a good dragon only book should pick this up.
