Summary: A great book by Salvatore, filled with tons of action
Review: Those who know of Salvatore's work love it! This story is one of the best that I have ever read. It starts with a young man named Luthien Bedwyr who travels from his home in search of a better life. He meets up with the Highway Halfling, Oliver deBurrows who helps him along the journey. In his travels he gets sucked into a war against the tyrant known as Greensparrow. It is a great booked filled with tons of action and many funny scenes. I highly recomend it for anybody who enjoys fantasy.

Summary: Mediocre, at a high school level.
Review: To be honest I bought this book for the cover. I read the book in high school, when I hope most who read this book do.

Honestly, Salvatore is not for developed minds. He writes towards a coming of age/ juvenile audience, and uses borrowed themes, races, and even plots to appease his readers. He garners no authentic mythology, but festers on clichéd artifacts such as crystals and swords.

If you like clichéd smutty fantasy, you will love this book. If you like soaps perhaps a particular soap called "Passions," you will love this book.

If you are looking for diverse, authentic mythological high fantasy, you are bound to be disappointed with any of Salvatore's work.

Extra note: The pretension of the pseudonymous pen-name disgruntled me as well.

Summary: Why a trilogy out of this book?
Review: We're far away from Forgotten Realms with this book. Don't waste your money on this book. The hero is hallow and it's simply too easy.

Meet Dritz instead.

Summary: more great stuff by salvatore
Review: what can i say, i've been reading him forever, and he dosn't disapoint me at all. the characters are lively, and while ouraggeus at times, fun as hell. Oliver nad luthien are a great duo, with witty banter and fighting galore. just pick it up, you'll love it.

Summary: Naive noble falls into the role of thieving revolutionary
Review: Young Luthien leads a sheltered life on his island home of Bedwyr. Oblivious to the tyranny of the evil King GreenSparrow and his army of cyclopians, Luthien's eyes are gradually opened to the truth following the course of many events including the murder of his best friend. As Luthien flees from his home...he meets up with the debonaire Oliver DeBurrows, the self proclaimed highwayhalfling. In the course of their adventures together, Luthien acquires the mantle of the magical Crimson Cape which lends invisibility and a degree of protection to its bearer. Use of the cape leaves an unremovable "red stain" behind in the form of its user...recognized widely as the form of the legendary Crimson Shadow. Luthien's adventures continue in his attempt to find his place in the great city of Montfort and elude the evil minion of King GreenSparrow...the Duke Morkney.

Like R.A. Salvatore's other books...the Crimson Shadow series is a great adventure roller coaster. Magic, companionship, rebellion, and the overthrow of a seemingly unconquerable "evil King" make for a great read. I can't wait to read the next installment in this series.
