Rating: Summary: This can't be a Salvatore book Review: After immersing myself in several of Salvatore's tales (Icewind Dale trilogy, Dark Elf trilogy, etc.), I picked up this series. Unfortunately, it was nowhere near as interesting or compelling to read as his other titles. I agree with the earlier reviewer in that I could not for the life of me get into the story. I didn't even finish the last book, simply because I didn't really care what happened. Not at all what I expected to be, I can't really recommend this to anyone but the most devout Salvatore fan. Instead, read the Demon Wars Saga: much, much better.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing work by Salvatore this time Review: After reading the Cleric Quintet, and the Dark Elf and Icewind Dale trilogies, I was excited to find this book. It was a disappointment though, and it seems weak compared to those other series. For some reason the story and characters just failed to interest me and it was more like reading a book written according to some recipe than a cohesive whole. All the usual Salvatore elements are there: protagonist, sidekick, villains and fantasy settings. But they didn't gel into anything believable or engaging so I can't recommend it. It was as if Salvatore tried to plug in these elements, expecting them to make an interesting story, but for me at least, it failed. Anytime I find myself hoping the protagonists are caught or killed, it's a bad sign. My opinion seems to be in the minority and the series may have improved after this first entry, but I'm not willing to buy the other books in that faint hope.
Rating: Summary: An epic tale of hope and despair Review: After the death of friend and arena fighter Garth Rogar, young Luthien Bedwyr is set on a near impossible quest to free eriador. Stunningly described characters including Brind Amour the wizard (a famous NHL hockey player) and the esteemed oliver deburrows accompany Luthien as he discovers his fate. Armed with the a magical folding bow and the magical crimson cape Luthien tries to free Montfort, Caer Mcdonald Along with Sojourn, this is Salvatore's Greatest work yet.
Rating: Summary: Maintains that best of the classic Salvatoree style Review: For those who are hardcore fans of Dritzz and the Salvatore TSR series of books, you will find in this novel all the basics that have made Salvatore a bestsellers. The fighting scenes are well crafted and described, and the chracters and situations are as engaging as any seen around the dark elf. A must buy!
Rating: Summary: READ IT!! Review: Great book. Th story line is strong, and the action is hot. R. A. Salvatore completes another masterpiece. The detail of the action in the book is depicted as only Salvatore can show. The book is so good I can't think of a suitable work to use to describe it. Get it, and read it.
Rating: Summary: VERY GOOD WORK!!! Review: I found this book very good. But it has its weak spots. Not long enough, not detailed enough, and NOT up to R. A. Salvatore's usual standard. Still a good, quick read that deserves a 9 at least. Comments? E-mail me!
Rating: Summary: The sword of Bedwyr Review: I have read many of R.A. Salvatore's books and let me tell you, this guy is a genious. He makes the characters come alive. If you like this book try some of his others.
Rating: Summary: As good as the Dark Elf series Review: I highly recommend this book for anyone who is a fan of fantasy. Salvatore is a master in the genre. The book is loaded with action and humor (especially from Oliver). Luthien is a character that I could see becoming as popular as Salvatore's Dark Elf, Drizzt. For anyone who enjoyed Salvatore's Dark Elf sereis, this book is a definate must.
Rating: Summary: One of the better books on survival and war in fiction. Review: I may be young, but I am no fool when it comes to a good fiction/fantasy book. Growing up on loving mythical happenings and things beyond the "normal" human mind, I've come to appreciate the works of writers such as J.R.R. Tolkein, Lloyd Alexander, and of course R.A. Salvatore. This book includes friendship, trust, love, action, magic, even a bit of mischeif, but above all, the power of one's will to avenge the death of a friend. Salvatore describes his characters with much pomp and flare, but yet shows a tender side as well. This first book kept me hooked through the other two in this series. I stand and salute Luthien, Siobhan, Katerin, Brind'Amour, Ethan, and of course, the foppish halfling Oliver for all of their heroics.
Rating: Summary: Okay, but not Salvatore's best. Review: I would say that I was disappointed, but I wasn't expecting a Dark Elf Trilogy. The characters, especially the main character Luthien, were not very well developed and rather simple. Oliver was interesting, but he was the only developed character. Luthien, the main character, just was not that likeable. I never found myself cheering for Luthien, but Oliver was cool. The plot is ok, but I didn't really find the cyclopians very interesting for bad guys. Some of the things within the book were well written and interesting, but it would hurt anyone's view of the book when you are comparing it to his Forgotten Realms masterpieces. Salvatore is still a great author, but I would recommend reading all of his Forgotten Realms novels before tackling this one. There are so many great fantasy books out there you can probably find a better one you haven't read, but hardcore Salvatore fans might enjoy it.
