Rating: Summary: An entertaining read, but not much of a challenge Review: It says something that I've read up to the third book, but sometimes I wonder why I'm still reading it. I suppose it's because the story itself is really good despite problems in style, and the secret soap-opera lover in me likes the interplay between the characters, particularly the romance between humans and the feline Sholan. Ms. Norman has steadily improved her writing since her amateurish debut in Turning Point, but she still seems to be childish in her style . . . it's like a drama written for teenagers, with emotional histrionics, people being immature, plots randomly thrown in for tension, etc. The main draw for me is the Sholans themselves, and the touchy-feelie closeness you experience as you read. A good read, but intellectually and stylistically still immature.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book but has one small flaw. Review: Miss Norman has some wonderful talent. Her one fall back in this book seemed that she would invent the problem and invent a way to solve it. The book was becoming more of a soap opera then anything. I think explaining the problem and the solutions a little more before she finishes would greatly increase the power behind her writing. I can't wait for book #4. :
Rating: Summary: A WELCOME RETURN Review: NORMAN RETURNS US TO HER UNFORGETTABLE WORLD OF
SHOLA. WHAT MAKES THIS BOOK SO GREAT IS THAT NORMAN TAKES US MORE INTO THE HISTORY OF HER WORLD. SHE ALSO GIVES HER SUPPORTING CHARACTERS
MORE DEPTH; SUCH AS KAID. WE LEARN MORE ABOUT HIS
MYSTERIOUS PAST. WE ALSO GET A TRIP BACK TO INTO
THE HISTORY OF SHOLA AND THE GREAT DISASTER THAT SHAPE THEIR WORLD. NORMAN ALSO GIVES US MORE
INTRIQUE, ROMANCE, AND SUPERIOR WORLD-BUILDING THAT MAKES HER NOVELS SO MEMORABLE.
Rating: Summary: A great world to visit! Review: Not since Pern have I come upon such an interesting world to visit. I think the author has done an increasingly interesting and sophisticated job of "filling" out Shola. I hope she has plans to continue the series as there are many interesting story lines developed in Fire Margins. I personally hated to come to the end of this good-sized read as Ms Norman's characters are realistic, likeable, and easy to become involved with. I would recommend this book to any reader who likes to visit alien worlds.
Rating: Summary: . . .and they mean FIRE, alright! Review: Well, there was no science, no logic, no true conflic (even though there is war) and a bunch of romance: this equils a no - brainer. This novel was the WORST I have EVER read, and I speak truthfully on that one. I hate this book (and the rest in the series) with a passion. I know this wouldn't apeal to the male audiance (I am woman though)To much pointless relationships and no action. All in all, I don't think it is right to burn a book, but this one sure did get my bon-fire started rather well! This book is NOT recremanded unless you like those pointless romances with no real steady plot.
Rating: Summary: Corny and Lacking Story. Review: What I was thinking the entire time that I read this novel was that it would be MUCH better if it was several novels instead of one. There wasn't enough time spent on one subplot that the story suffered a great deal from it. I am still uncertain to HOW going into the past (by using telepathy and drugs?!) could get them their clan... For being 756 pages this novel had very little story and could have been written in half of that. With pages upon pages of excess dialog and subplots. Some of the extra stories about the characters was interesting but that was about it. Some of the characters ARE intersting to read about and that's probably the only reason why I even read these books. The bad guys, though... Guynor from the first book, Fara from the second, and Ghezu and Fyak from this novel were all incredably annoying and the same. Just the cliche twisted, evil, jealous types with no true intersting past or pain. The two stars are for the characters. If the story wasn't so corny I could have given it more. Lisanne does have some interesting ideas but she seems to lack something in the coherant storytelling department. I mean, come on... time travel through telepathy?! Not even awknolwdging the possibility of a paradox? How does this stuff even get published? Oh... and please lay off the c'shar... please? These characters need to drink something else.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful!!! Review: What more can I say? A truly wonderful series. I have read the first 3 books now and I hope that they carry on the same way! I tried to find book 4 here in the UK but so far I have had a fruitless search. Perhaps book 4 will be the first one I purchase over the internet.... Maybe. :)
