Summary: An excellent example of the survival instinct.
Review: A beautifuly writen book that lets the reader take a glimpse into a mind of a survivor. The world has been ravaged by an ever growing alien infestation, more then three-forths of the population is dead, what does the world do now? Gerrolds manges to create realistic survivors and takes us back to the root of being human, the abilty to cry, and not to cry. Packed with emotion War Against the Chtorr is a powerful series that deserves to be read by anyone interested in the realm of fiction. Cant wait for the next installment.

Summary: Thanks for all the kind words!
Review: And yes, I'm hard at work on the fifth book. These things are hard to write. It's nice to know that there are such enthusiastic readers. It's fuel for my engine. Thank you!

Review: As I lay there in the CCU of St.Lukes Hospital after suffering a major illness my Physicians let me read to burn off the time. I had two weeks to spend while they contimplated my fate. So I had my family bring me Volume #1,#2,#3 and #4. Well if I was going to meet my maker, at least I was going to enjoy the rich tapestry of Mr. Gerrolds art firmly embeded in my mind, one more time.I wondered if I was ever going to find out if the Earth surrivied the Alien infestation. Mr. Gerrold has the key to all of our answers, but like fine WINE it takes time to age so when we taste the efforts of the wine-master we apperciate the curring/creative process. Mr. Gerrold has rewritten his story before and prides himself in his ability to weave a tight tapestry. So how long will it take this time? I remember writing to Mr. Gerrold to ask him if we could expect the 5th installment of his epic journey into the depths of dispear and his responce was that "I am 2/3's done, just be patie! nt" Well that was almost two years ago, and I know that sometime in 1999 we will see the next volume sitting on retailers bookshelves around the world. Be patient, Mr. Gerrold is an ARTIST at work....Remember he is from California, they function in a different dimension

Summary: Compelling, thought provoking, horror entwined with hope
Review: CONCEPT: Earth has been invaded by the Chtorr culture; a mix of especially nasty and powerful beings that make up this alien ecological chain. First, ¾ of the humans were wiped out by the plagues and now gigantic worm like creatures are further slaying people while they infest the American lands.

WHY IT WORKED FOR ME: First off, I was drawn in and I usually don't go for sci fi books. That simple. The means of describing such a disastrous infestation would turn most people off who don't want to read such a gloom and doom story. I have to admit that at times things seem bleak when they think of coexisting rather than eradicating the Chtorrans. But the story kept driving forward and you're compelled to follow with it. Great characters, great dialogues and great writing style (see below for the latter point). This story works best for people who appreciate investigate stories and aren't afraid to read about the tumultuous emotions raging in this novel. A lot of these people are on the edge or still carrying anger around. For me, that was pretty fascinating. Gerrold revealed it no only from a scientific viewpoint (as most sci fi authors do), but also from an emotional viewpoint. Flashbacks, for the most part, connected with the current story in scope or belief. Thus, it was an easy flow. The class taught by Whitlaw was totally new to me. Now that's the way a class should be taught; not with the drones we have now in the education system.

OVERALL STYLE: Loved the dialogue (see above). Also loved the metaphors and similes . . . " . . . her head blossomed in a sudden flower of red." Or "I turned in time to see the Chtorran falling forward through a shower of glass fragments. They glittered around it like tiny sparkling stars. In one smooth movement, it poured through the glass and flowed down off the stage and into the shrieking audience. It hit the front rows like an avalanche." His play with words are magnificent. I really could feel the story flow as I read it and it never ever . . . ever dragged.

Summary: A fantastic novel! Truelly comitted to making it real!
Review: David Gerrold writes a fantastic book in which he takes the hostile takeover of an alien race to the biological level and succedes grandly. Mr. Gerrold takes every detail into account in this sweeping story. All while following our horribly dysfunctional hero. A sweeping epic of alien invasion that can't and shouldn't be put down!

Summary: Excellent series, great start....great middle....ending?
Review: David Gerrolds war against the Chtorr is an incomplete masterpiece. Fast paced style, well rounded charactors (shown warts and all), excellent action and epic plot. The only problem with the series is the long promised 5th, 6th and 7th books... as they have never materialized. Hopefully they will appear soon, but I'm not holding my breath any longer.

Summary: Excellent in all departments!
Review: David has packed a trememdous amount into this book. Not only is this book excellent SF entertainment, it educates and encourages you to think about things that you may have never thought of before. Things like what is freedom, responsibility, the roles of government? I can't wait to get the remaining books - it's a pity they are out of print!

Summary: The first of one of the greatest series in SF history.
Review: Despite some reservations on my part I felt I had to give this book only an 8... because the books that follow are even better that this one. As others have commented, the series is unfinished (but then we thought so after no.3 didn't we?) and I await no.5 with nothing less than clinical impatience.

Be warned: read this book and you will find yourself searching for the others within a week!

Summary: Classic Science Fiction
Review: Don't know where or how I picked up this book but it sat on bookshelf for some time. Picked it up and read it in one sitting. Could not put it down. Outstanding science fiction and highly recommended to anyone. Looking for the other three!

Summary: Chtorr series
Review: First book is great. The rest of the series drags on slower and slower like the author ran out of ideas or just got bored with the whole thing. Never start reading ANY series until the entire thing is FINISHED and on the shelves. Don't get pulled into this one. Jerks like Gerrold really sour things for science fiction fans.
