Rating: Summary: THE BEST UNKNOWN BOOK I'VE EVER READ! Review: Legend may be becoming a cult classic. I'd expect that it would be. But it's still got a to be pretty small cult. The only guy I know who'd ever heard about it was the guy who lent me his copy and insisted that I read it. He was right. This is a very different and very wonderful book. If you read it, I think you will probably love it. Just like I did.
Rating: Summary: AN INTRICATE, EXTREMELY WELL WRITTEN SAGA!!! Review: I read of review of this book and bought a copy as a gift. But then I started reading the first couple of paragraphs. I was hooked immediately. The City seemed so real, and the world of the disciples just as real. I'm not a science fiction fan, but if this is any example of the kind of stories that are being written today in science fiction, I may well become one.
Rating: Summary: AN AMAZING SURPRISE! Review: If ever a book can't be judged by its cover, it's this one. Looking at the book and reading the notes on the outside, I expected a stuffy, pretentious and ponderous pseudo-philosophical bore. What I got was adventure, excitement, whimical twists and turns, and one of the most interesting novels I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC STORY!!! Review: I've never read another book like this one. I loved the adventure both in the devasted city and in the wonderworld of the disciples. And I loved Martin and Gena both, two great characters forced in an almost Hickockian way into a situation that initially at least had virtually no control over. And best of all I loved the ending. Great book.
Rating: Summary: COULD HARDLY BE BETTER Review: Legend takes you by the back of the neck and shakes you. I'm not saying it will necessarily change your life, but it will give you hours of reading pleasure, AND it will give you pause and rattle your cage more than a bit.
Rating: Summary: AN EPIC STRUGGLE!!! Review: Legend is a modern legend, a modern myth that's every bit as wonderful as any legend or myth that I know of. A great tale, a thrilling ride, and a compelling ending. Unforgettable characters, unforgettable worlds. Great storytelling.
Rating: Summary: A GLORIOUS RE-TELLING OF THE ESSENTIAL MYTHS OF OUR CULTURE Review: LEGEND is fun and exciting, but it's also an updating of some of the central myths of our society. By taking us to an imaginary future it reflects upon our world today without being boring or pedantic. That makes it a book which anyone can relate to, which can be read at a number of levels, which is an enjoyable and satisfying reading experience, and which might even make a couple of changes in the way you look at the world.
Rating: Summary: MY FAVORITE HEROINE Review: Gena is one of my favorite women in any fantasy I've ever read. Martin, the hero, pales beside her, without her he'd be nothing. With her, he has a chance and together they are more than the sum of their parts. I'm on my second reading in a row, and it's still exciting.
Rating: Summary: A VIVID, FAST-PACED SF THRILLER OF THE FIRST MAGNITUDE!!! Review: LEGEND will make you think, but you'll also have a great time reading it. You'll probably also end up staying up far later than you intended to, turning the pages. If this isn't one of the very best books you read this year, I'll be amazed!
Rating: Summary: WHY DID IT TAKE 10 YEARS FOR ANYONE TO FIND OUT ABOUT LEGEND Review: Legend was originally published in 1987, so it's been around for awhile. I only heard about it a couple of weeks ago and I try to keep up on the latest sf. It's astonishing to me that a novel this good took this long to even begin to catch on (because it's still hardly a household name). I hope it doesn't take another 10 years to get a sequel.
