Summary: A great book, one of the best.
Review: Roger Zelazny did well on creating a story with a intresting twist. The first book in the ten book series, Nine Princes in Amber, starts off with a freak auto accident that put the hero of the story(Corwin of Amber) in the hospital. Nine Princes in Amber tells the tale of Corwins Recovery of Amnesia, witch he sufferd from a cuncossion, and his adventures thereafter. He learns of his family members, and their....special qualities. He finds out that the place called Amber, is his birth place, and the one true existence. Earth, and all other things, are merly shadows of Amber. Roger Zelazny wrote the book in a exiting, humoris manor, that puts you right into the story. There are ten books in the Amber series, all of witch I've read, spending more than 23 hours consuming there marvelous complicity. If you buy Nine Princes in Amber, you won't be able to resist the other books also.

Summary: Hm... Looks like the typical pulp fantasy novel to me...
Review: I had borrowed this book from a friend -- I must say, it provided hours of entertainment on Ye Olde Russian Camping Trip, although probably not in the intended manner.

What escapes me completely, however, is how this rather humorous literary equivalent of, say, strawberry kool-aid, could be considered anything remotely similar to a 'modern classic.' Let's see, how many cliches can *you* find? An underwater city with green-nippled fish women? Magical horses? A crazy old sorcerer with a skull in his study? Telepathic mental battles? Why, they're all there!

And of course, you can't forget the ultra-masculine uberman with all the character development of a Power Rangers episode for the main character. What kind of thoughts go through the mind of Jason the Red Ranger? Now you too can find out.

Now to give credit where credit is due: the Plato rip-off idea of Amber/shadow, substance/reflection was a bit intriguing -- but the execution of it degenerated into mindless action, and when the whole Chaos thing was added to the mix, it became yet another annoying cliche. Oh, and didn't you just love the random switching between excessively formal English and 70's slang in the dialogue?

Don't get me wrong, this would make the coolest saturday morning cartoon ever, and probably a kick-ass anime series as well. All these five star reviews, though, can't help but make me wonder all sorts of things about societies and intellectual decline.

Summary: Probably the best book I've ever read.
Review: I made the mistake of reading the first page of this book. After that, I was a goner. The whole series is fantastic, the greatest fantasy/sci-fi epic I've ever read, and that's saying something. The wait between trips to the library for the next book is like withdrawl. The series proves that we don't need a main character we can relate to to enjoy the books. Corwin is at once hero and anti-hero, and cool as hell. A warning: If this copy is anything like the copy I read DON'T READ THE BACK COVER! It will utterly ruin the first book (I was lucky enough not to put the book down until I had finished it.

Summary: An extraordinary tale by an extraordinary author.
Review: I must say that the Amber series is one of the two greatest series' of high Fantasy that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Nine Princes begins one of the most epic tales on the shelves today, and just gets better with each installment. I have personally read these books many times, and the only other series that measures up is Robin Hobb's Assassin Trilogy. Tolkien-shmolkien...Amber is where it's at. Action and story that makes you think...with arguably the most likeable and bad-assed main character ever in the form of Corwin of Amber. The late Mr. Zelasney was a true master of his art.

Summary: A must buy!
Review: Amber the one true world, from which all others are but shadows... This series is one of the best science fiction/fantasy series ever. Only Lord of the Rings can compete. It is the story of Corwin, as he matures from an arrogant prince to a true hero. This is the book that begins this epic saga. Goodbye and hello, as always.

Summary: There is nothing like this.
Review: This series is incredible. This first book is incredible. If you haven't yet read it, you are lucky enough to enter this place for the first time. I reread the series over and over, because there doesn't really seem to exist any book in the universe better than these. The way he writes is like light entering a darkened room, filling the soul and the mind with a bedazzling imagery, eloquence and imagination. He really surpassed his genre, if not fiction itself. The writing is so good that it is hard to believe it is or was written. Unlike most linear writing, it is multidimensional and multifaceted like a brilliant but rare gem. You see things in it, and then other things, and its different every time you read it. The series and this book are not on this plane of existence, but are on their their own plane. It's hard after reading these to move on to another author, since it just never will be the same as experiencing Zelazny.

Summary: A wonderful series, but Zelazny had trouble ending it!
Review: This first book in the Amber series was incredible! Right from the start I was hooked! But in all honesty, I must say by the fifth book in this series he was losing his edge! If you read the whole thing, you'll see what I mean. Still, he's a great writer, and this series of books was his masterpiece!

Summary: Intense From Start To Finish!!
Review: The most unpredictible series I have ever read! I was crushed to learn Zelazny was no longer with us--I just found out about these incredible books. SOMEONE has got to re-issue these soon!!!
