Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Dark, Ripping Read Review: It was great to hold a copy of Dack Shannon stories on paper, not just reading them online. Each story is terse, dark, moody and darkly funny. I really enjoyed it. The novella at the end, Burden of Chic Melancholy, is some of the crispest, coolest work Shrews has done. The characters are wild, amusing and never dull in this collection. There is real personality to the writing. I think Shrews is a great pulp writer and can't wait for more work by him to see print. Buy it folks, it is a cool ride for paranoids folks, horror fans, or mystery buffs. Dack is a cold character. Go find the albino dude in the dark!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Dark Tales Review: It was rewarding to read these on paper. I really liked the newer versions of these stories and material never published before. The novella was terrific and the stories selected arranged well. Dack Shannon is a super character and these stories scratch the surface. I liked the pace and it was very funny overall, while being disturbing too. ENCORE!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Big Bad Dack Review: Nocturnal Vacations is a really good book. Dack Shannon is the meanest good guy out there. This is Noir/Horror with a very dark edge. If you like your action stories with a lot of blood and guts. Pick up a copy of Nocturnal Vacations. Long Live Dack!!!

The character is carefully thought-out and developed, the situations are clever, and the stories are well-crafted. The stories of Nocturnal Vacations reveal why Steve Shrewsbury is regarded as one of the top on-line horror writers. Keep it up, Steve.

His Dack stories only get better with time. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and I recommend it to any readers who enjoy horror/action stories. Congratulations on impressing me and I look forward to more anthologies in the future from Mr. Shrewsbury.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Dack Shannon Delivers JUSTICE! Review: What can I say, I'm a sucker for dark brooding Albinos wearing black and fighting the forces of evil! I've been a fan of Dack Shannon, that wonderfully flawed character from the mind of Steven L. Shrewsbury, for several years now and I was thrilled to get my hands on a paperback collection of Dack Stories. The way that Shrews mixes so many elements into the Dack Universe is what makes these tales so much fun--you never know what's going to be thrown at Dack next. From aliens to possessive demons, blood-thirsty psychopaths to spiritually evil apparitions, dirty congressman to flawed mad-scientists, Dack deals with them all. Donning his black trenchcoat and signature bullet-proof fedora, Dack does the dirty jobs, cleaning up the world and ridding our streets of the scum...whatever form that scum might take. I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of Tweaked Stories that had originally been published in various zines and I can't wait for the next Dack Shannon novel, COMMON GRAVE, which Shrews mentions in his closing to NOCTURNAL VACATIONS. Keep that Dack coming, Shrews!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Dack Shannon . . . pleeeeeease! Review: What did I just spend my hard-earned money on? Does anyone whose read this literary defecation even know? An albino secret agent working for Majestic Services? What complete, ultra-total garbage! The writing style lacks any sense of "style" and is beset by inflated, la-di-da prose throughout. I just hope this author doesn't take his/herself too seriously, 'cause the average reader's not likely to. The stories in Nocturnal Vacations left me feeling angry -- angry that I wasted the time sifting through them, hoping to find originality, but finding it to be as pale as the main character's skin. I don't expect to see Dack Shannon (Ha) running across the silver screen anytime before the universe folds back into itself.
