Rating: Summary: Where are the paperbacks for Middle School classroom use? Review: The journal type entries in this book make it ideal for classroom study. The vocabulary is challengenging and the social aspects of the book are thought provoking. Students do not get bored even if they need to read it over and over. More advanced students find much to analyze while less advanced students are interested and learning. So why can't I find any paperbacks in print for my Middle School students?
Rating: Summary: GREAT ILLUSTRATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!A SOON TO-BE CLASSIC!!!!!!! Not only does this book have a extrordinary plot, the illustrations couldn't be better! If you enjoy fantasy as much as much as just atensy-weensy bit, you'll fall in LOVE with this book. You'll read it to EVERYBODY! I've never heard of a book as extrordanary as this. A must read for all. Some other great books based on this are The World Beneath;Dinotopia Lost;and the series of short novels. READ THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Explore the mystery of "A Land Apart From Time" Review: For centuries, mankind's facination with the mystery and majesty of dinosaurs has driven us to search, to imagine, and to dream. Dinotopia is a chance for young and old to travel to another world, a world where man and dinosaur live together in peaceful coexistance. Breathtaking paintings from the hand of James Gurney offer a visual experience full of wonder and life. From the awesome power of Waterfall City to the remote hights of the Tentpole of the Sky, Gurney has created a journey for the imagination, cleverly interwoven with an intruiging story. "Breath deep, Seek peace" and enter the amazing world of Dinotopia
Rating: Summary: All of the above! 10 10 10 !!! Review: A family book that everyone can enjoy. A book of peace, not
war. Refreshing! Dinotopia and Dinotopia, the World Beneath
as well as the Allen Dean Foster novel, Dinotopia Lost are great reads. Although I feel like the Trix rabbit when I do
it, I look in the Childrens section for new Dinotopia books
all the time, nice to see that I can check here with out wearing the kids mask! :-) There are 6 young reader books out. Windchaser by Scott Ciencin, River Quest by John Vornholt
Hatchling by Midori Snyder, Sabertooth Mountain by John Vornholt and
Thunder Falls bt Scott Ciencin. Comming soon: Firestorm by
Scott Ciencin. Only gripe: NOT ENOUGH ADULT Books like Allen
Dean Fosters Dinotopia Lost, book! The young reader books are
OK, but I want more adult novels written on Dinotopia. BTW,
even the Pop Up book is great! :-) And I'm 38!! Have fun!
Rating: Summary: This is book tells of a place where Dinosaurs still exsist. Review: Dinotopia is a book about a land where Dinosaurs and people
live together in harmony. This certain book tells about a scientist
who is shiprecked on Dinotopia with his son and their adventures they have
there. To see their further adventures four years later I suggest
Reading "The World Beneath" by James Gurney
Rating: Summary: it's the greatest Review: From the very first moment I picked this book up, I could see
that it was something special. Immediately I was enchanted
with the beautiful art and the amount of creativity that must
have went into a project of this magnitude. The world of Dinotopia is itself complete, albeit apolitical, and the reader
(you) is at once immersed into a land of wonder. I had to restrain myself in order to read the book without automatically
tuning to see the next page's paintings-that's how thrilling it is. Anyone who reads this book and gets anything out of
it (I mean, learns anything fron it) will be a better person
because of it. No kidding. But be forewarned: If you buy this book as bought as a gift, do not sit down to browse through it; if you do, there is a large chance that you will have to buy a new gift-you will probably keep this one
for yourself.
Rating: Summary: A True Classic! Review: This book is based on a fictional diary found by James Gurney, which tells the story of Arthur Denison and his son William Denison, shipwrecked during one of their voyages and saved by dolphins only to find themselves on an incredible island, unknown to the world, and habituated by dinosaurs.
The incredible thing is that the dinosaurs in this island live side by side with humans. Arthur and his son soon find out that the people in Dinotopia are very friendly as are the dinosaurs. Arthur and his son travel trough the island discovering and learning about the island and about a civilization where there is virtually no violence or war or prejudice of any kind. This island is a true Utopia.
The way the story is written you can't help it but fall in love with this place. The illustrations are so beautiful you feel like Dinotopia could exist. The story is very touching. This book is one of those books that really make your imagination come to life. The whole journey trough the island is incredible. Although this is a children's book, this book can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS BOOK Review: Anyone with an imagination, a love of art, or an interest in dinosaurs will love this book. The illustrations are the best I've ever seen in a book and the story is great. It reminds me of something H.G.Wells would write. I will take good care of this book and pass it down from generation to generation like a family treasure.
Rating: Summary: I can't decide wether to frame it or Read it Review: When I first read this book, I was very young. The story captivated me, and when I took the time to look up from the words, the illustrations left me completely speechless. There is nothing quite like flipping the full page open that contains Gurney's sketch of Waterfall City...perhaps the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Now, I know the story very well, and I find it very difficult to keep my midn focused on reading it again, because the artwork is captivating. I cannot say enough about Gurney's creative talent. His world where a group of beings with 65 million years of experience now teach humans, who considered themselves the ultimate beings on the planet, about philosophy, metallurgy, writing, building...The story conveys the incredibly complex simplicity that makes up all believable fictional worlds. And let's not forget the incredible incredible art.
Rating: Summary: Different from most dinosaur books Review: Dinotopia is different from most books about dinosaurs. It has good messages and shows the culture of the dinosaurs. It has great illustrations which add more detail to the writing, especially pictures where Will is flying on the Skybax. I recommend this book.
