Rating: Summary: Only in Dreams Review: A truly wonderful book, and a picture book at that! The exquisite drawings are enough to make one fall in love with the fantasy world of Dinotopia. You might even wish that one day, you could be brought to the shores of Dinotopia by dolphins, as Arthur and his son did in A Land Apart from Time. I highly recommend the sequel as well.
Rating: Summary: Dinotopia is Utopia Review: Suspend your beliefs, accept the mind-boggling premise & let your eyes convince your mind as you drool over James Gurney's exquisite pictures. This is for reading in company, for snuggling around a pool of light when all the day's chores are done, your home is warm, your critters fed & you all want to go on an adventure of the mind. It is a fantastically illustrated & evocatively written account of a father & son's adventures & discoveries on a lost island. It is a wonder-filled, well-wrought adventure following in the footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson, Jules Verne & Jane Yolen...
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest books of all time. Review: Dinotopia is a book I discovered about 3 years ago . I picked it up from the library on my way home the last day of Summer vacation. I never expected to love it so much. It's got the best visuals and storyline then almost anything you'll see in the movies, and it gives you this incredible urge to actually go out and find this place. Dinotopia is an awesome book that everyone should read. The mystery that surrounds this place really makes you feel like you're getting a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see something no one else is seeing. There's no way to explain how happy this book made me feel. Read it now.
Rating: Summary: Exquisite Fantasy- Superior Ideas Review: Dinotopia delighted me from the first time I opened the book. Believe me, it wasn't the last time! The illustrations, the plot, the characters. This book brings the world of fantasy literature to the highest ranks. For all ages, especially those who appreciate a good imagination and imagine the world as a better place.
Rating: Summary: Perfect paradise Review: I loved it! The pictures could not fit the book any better. The idea sounds like a Jurasic Park spin off but instead of dinosaurs try to eat each other, they live in peace. James Gurney created an amazing lifelike world. CLASSIC!
Rating: Summary: Dinotopia (original version) Review: Great concept, my grandson loves having it read to him. However, even he noticed something a bit strange: The dinosaurs haven't evolved further in the last 100-65 million years. They look exactly like their fossil records. Minor point, but it would have worked better at more levels to show an evolved race as well as the 'legacy' models so to speak.
Rating: Summary: Oh, wow!!! Review: This book is absolutely fantastic. I wish there were more books like this: quality books with both beautiful drawings and a beautiful storyline. This book is absolutely worth every penny, and then some. James Gurney is really onto something big here. I have had this book for 5 years about, and still read it.
Rating: Summary: An unforgettable world! Review: Dinotopia is the creation of a world where dinosaurs and man work as a team. Yes, that sounds corny to anyone who hasn't read any of the Dinotopia books. At least, that's what I thought when a friend recommended that I read them. Normally, I'm not into fantasy and/or fiction books, but this one definitely grabbed my attention and kept it. When an author is THIS good at creating a complete world no one has ever seen and convincing ME that perhaps it actually DOES exist somewhere....well, then that author is a "master." Way to go!
Rating: Summary: I still remember it, from when I was 12 Review: When I was younger I read this book frequently. It inspired the imagination and spurred interest in the exploration of far off places and archeology. When I read this book I was a little girl, and now I still remember it and flip through the pages of the creative illustrations. It is a great book for younger readers, which I hope one day my own children can share.
Rating: Summary: Dinotopia lives -- as Naboo in Star Wars I Review: Gurney's illustrations are truely timeless. They've recently been reproduced in craven and uncredited detail by the "art" team of Star Wars I : the Phantom Menace. See in particular the layout of Waterfall City, the monumental arches, and the triumphant procession. So striking was the resemblance that back when we saw the very first preview of P.M. my son and I looked at each other and said in one voice "Dinatopia." Apart from the look of the sets, the two stories are worlds apart. "Breath deep. Seek peace." say the gentle Dinatopians. "May the Force be with you." say the Star Warriors. I guess the Force figures it can take whatever it wants... Check out the original.
