Rating: Summary: This was great! Review: Ship of the line was a really great book. I enjoyed it immensely. I didn't like it as much as Star Trek: The Return, but this provided information on what I had been curious about since First Contact came out. I really loved it when Riker, Bateson, and Scotty attempted to regain control of the ship. It was really funny when Scotty and co. flooded the room with ten Klingons in it with methane. I thought that was ingenious and a nice touch. I was wondering what class the Bozeman II was. If anyone knows the answer to this, please reply. My e-mail address is filled in above.
Rating: Summary: ST-TNG: Ship of the Line Review: Star Trek - The Next Generation written by Diane Carey is a book of many facets involving the Star Trek genre. This book adds to the history of several different television episodes like one that I can think of "Cause and Effect" and the book Star Trek: First Contact is just beginning at the end of his book.Like I mentioned, this book seems to tie some lose ends together. There are two main themes in this book that seem to be rather seperated, but later on in the book become apparent that they do interplay. The first is the U.S.S. Bozeman after fighting the Klingon's 70 years earlier is now in their future and we find out what they were up to then as it affects what is going on now. Another time warp anomaly mixing the twenty-third and the twenty-fourth century's timelines. Well, the U.S.S. Bozeman and her Captain, Morgan Bateson are now in their relative future. Bateson pulls rank on Picard and takes the new Starship Enterprise 1701-E on a shakedown, but that's not all as Bateson believes the Klingon Empire is building it's forces and is preparing to strike the Federation. Now the newly minted Enterprise is on a mission to thwart the threat. Secondly, Captain Jean-Luc Picard is sent on a mission to release Federation prisioners held by the Cardassians. As Gul Madred and Picard work out the details for the release Picard hears about what Bateson is upto. From the book "Relics" Scotty is onboard the new Entrprise as are via holodeck James T. Kirk and others. As Picard works out logistics with Kirk. Captain Bateson is not without enemies and of course the Klingons will oblige with Kozara who has been nursing a grudge for decades. Now, Captain Jean-Luc Picard has to decide... choose whether to take back command or let Bateson continue. This book pits present Star Trek with past Star Trek as Carey tries to blend it all together. The book moves quickly and the narrative is lively enough to keep your interest... and the out come is in doubt till close to the end of the story.

Rating: Summary: Comments :) Review: The book itself was great, but there are some fault areas, for example, when Picard accepted the mission for rescuing the MIAs, he was given the command of Rear-Admiral. The area of conflict is that Picard never was given the command of the rear-admiral, but his original position, captain. This book was a good start off before the movie/novel "First Contact". Besides this gap, I think its alright and acceptable, since I finished it in four hours. :)
Rating: Summary: way too much ship nostalgia Review: The dedication to old navy ships was way too hokey. She did a good job of trying in familiar scenes from movies and episodes, however. I think she used her thesaurus too much in this book. I know this sounds uncomplicated, but I really would have preferred to have a villain in this book.
Rating: Summary: What's good about the newest Star Trek novel. Review: The newest Trek book is one of best of the hardcovers available. There is something for every fan in this book which deals with the events between Generations and First Contact. Elements from the Original series to Deep Space Nine make their presence felt in the novel. There is no lengthy decription of the building process of the new Enterprise, or large sections of what it was possible of. It was intersting to see Starfleet did not want to give command to Picard after he lost the Enterprise-D. I am kind of disapointed that the story does have anything to do with Picard and company actually in command of the new ship, just how the crew managed to get the new ship. Still this was an enjoyable edition to the Star Trek library.
Rating: Summary: Diane Carey should've taken more time to write this book! Review: The story itself was okay, with some interesting details. The events of "First Contact," "Cause and Effect," and the original series episodes were well told. Unfortunatlely, it juggled too many stories and had some really annoying incongruities with regard to the movies and series. First, Klingons don't live quite so long, so Bateson's enemy probably wouldn't be alive after all this time. Second, didn't anybody PROOFREAD this book!? I can understand the occasional misspelling of a big word, but "Alfa 177"!? I think if the author had taken more time to get down some of the small details and have somebody proofread her book, it would have come out much better. The story is good, it just needs to focus on one or two of the big storylines.
Rating: Summary: My Wish List:Ship of the Line on tape read by Kelsey Grammer Review: This book captures all of the feeling of C.S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower series while fitting seamlessly into the tapestry or events built by dozens of Star Trek episodes and movies. If the main character hadnt been Frasier I could still have heard his delightful tones espousing 23rd century versions of 19th century naval commands while trapped in the 24th century. One would think that the time travel element would make this confusing but the book seamlessly jumps and jumps in order to carry the reader through a chain of events that, seemingly separate, all subplots come together in the specytacular climax with a three way confrontation between the spectactular new Enterprise-E design and a Cardassian fleet and a Klingon renegade. Picard's converstions with Kirk's interactive memoir provide a perfect lead in for his behavior in First Contact, while the tensions building on the borders of Klingon and Cardassian space perfectly mirror happenings on the DS9 TV series.
Rating: Summary: Great one but not for D.Carey Review: This book could've been better, however I thout that is was a pretty good one. I wold recommed this book. This wasn't a very good one for Diane Carey; however, if it was written by someoneelse, it would've been a very good book. Because I saw Diane Carey as the author, I was -tobe honest- expecting a lot more. In the movie "First Contact" an at the end of "Generations" the part for Thenew ship being built was left out and D. Carey had done something thatwas needed: She told how this ship first started her journey. I recommend this book to all Trekkies.!
Rating: Summary: Nothing against the Writer but... Review: This book just doesn't (I say doesn't because I'm struggling with trying to finish it) feel like a Star Trek Novel to me as far as the characters are concerned. Riker, La Forge, Troi and Data all seem alittle drippy and too over emotional when faced with having to deal with Bates as the Captain. I think the author in trying to deal with somekind of demon of her own brought on by some tradedy at sea she's possibly expierenced she tries to bring in the old sad salior routine of ships lost at sea. Data I can understand being a little sentamental due still dealing with and working out the bugs of the emotion chip, however Riker Troi La Forge are all seasoned Star Fleet and just don't seem to act that way in this book. I don't know what the rest of the book has in store nor am I sure if I will finish it but for those looking for a good Star Trek read try something like Spocks World or Sarek or anything else before this one.
