Rating: Summary: Love it Review: Some books I hate, others I love. I think it has to do with characters and what authors do to them. So many try to force the character to do something that they want, and when you read the passage, it just doesn't feel right. Not with this book, I like the fact that the author let the character be who she was. It was believable; she had faults as well as perfections. So for those who are looking for a story about a hero, but what a true hero that they can relate to, I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: PHENOMINAL Review: Tanya Huff did a magnificent job writing, WIZARD OF THE GROVE. I could read it again and again. When I ended the book I wanted it to keep going. This book has all the elements and more for what is need for a good fantasy. Lord Death and Crystal were wonderful characters! I would love to see another book in this series!
Rating: Summary: WOW! this was a really detailed book and i adored it Review: Tanya Huff did a really good job with this book. The thickness was a double aspect because I'm a really fast reader. I read it in almost 4 days. (last week) Crystal was very real and when Bryon died I didn't want to go on but I'm glad I did. To this day I'm still in love with Lord death. He's so realistic. I picture him as really hot too!. If you love mythical beings, feel free to e-mail me. Mystic402@hotmail.com
Rating: Summary: Nicely Written, But Horrid At The Same Time Review: Tanya Huff has such excellent writing potential for she has a way of weaving a web around you and drawing you in as a reader, but she lacks in many, many areas. Let me begin, Wizard of the Grove, starts out with a long, drawn out history when she easily could've summed things up for us, instead of writing nearly 150 pages of boringness. I know she meant this to be helpful, but I just found it quite unnecessary. We then go into a story that lacks a backbone. Crystal, our main character, is all powerful and all knowing. It's like she's a God or something with absolutely no weaknesses, and that doesn't make a believable character to begin with. The main thing that got to me was the ending. If Tanya Huff ever reads this, then I'm going to say it bluntly, IT STUNK!!!!! I won't reveal what happens, but know that is at least one sentence with a couple of words. Now, onto the second half of the book. Crystal is all alone in the world, save for her friend, Lord Death, who has totally mixed up feelings for Crystal. That's what the entire book is really about. How he and Crystal end up together. In all reality, this book just wasn't necessary. It was boring and just an excuse for Huff to continue the series.
Rating: Summary: Fantasy to a 'T' Review: This book is your picture-perfect fantasy novels to my idea. This may or may not be to what you like. Some books need feeling and realness, and difference to make them real, you know. I found this was not the case at the begining of this book. Steriotipical image of 'beutiful' girls, glowing eyes, pretty normal stuff. But then it got a very lot better, the characters are real, you grow attached to them, they become more real. I ust say I liked the relationships between people in the Last Wizard part, Lord Death and Crystal and the two brothers different afections for one another intertwined, (taking a little out of Lord Death, I might add, :) were very interesting. It was a great book, more there than just fantasy, I guess!
Rating: Summary: Impossible to put down. Review: This book was absolutely amazing to read. I went through it very quickly and enjoyed every bit of it. The characters had great development and were well created. Lord Death was a great character though I fell in love with Crystal. She showed little emotion but that was her character. She was alone in the world. When you are a loner you tend to bring all emotions inward. The scenery was beautiful and elegant in its visualization. The Mother's Cabin which was a shrine to the Mother Creator that magically replenished its food and had magical barriers on it was very creative. Overall I believe this to be a magical tale worthy of any bookshelf. If this novel is not placed near Tolkien, Anthony, or Bradley then I would be highly disappointed. Tanya Huff, thank you for a wonderful novel.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely magnificent!!! Review: This is a book that will be reread many times over!!!! The characters are depicted in such detail that you grin in their success and cry in their failure. A must read!!!
Rating: Summary: :)GREAT! Review: This is a wonderful book. I'm a Tanya Huff fan, so I decided, what the hey, I'll try this. I was drawn in almost immediately. At the beginning it takes a while to realize that Crystal, the last wizard, doesn't appear till later in the book, a few generations later. I found the story utterly engaging, humerous, and completely the kind of book I was looking for. It is different than most science fiction/fantasy books, which all seem to have the same plot overall, this book is quite unique. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Books I've Read in a Long Time! Review: This story is amazing! My friend Jill and I read this book and it's we've been talking about. You simply can't stand waiting for what Lord Death will say and do next, and Crytal is a great charecter who you feel like you really get to know. This book was written in a very neat way where you get some of the background leading up to the creation of this world and the Elder Folk, Gods, and Mortals who live there.
