Rating: Summary: better than freebirth, but far from what we deserve Review: Falcon Rising -does- do better than the previous attempt to entertain. not saying much, htough, since Freebirth (I felt) was a waste of my five dollars. However, neither book belongs in the twilight of the Clans story, and while this is at least semi-entertianing, it certainly shouldn't cap the TotC saga.
Rating: Summary: A epic Epiloge to an epic series Review: Falcon rising was a worth epiloge to the twilight of the clans series. With this book I truely understand the reason for the story Freebirth. earlier on. The book is a thrilling read, from Diana's quest for a bloodname, to the final battle with the steel vipers. This book is a must have for any fan of the jade falcons
Rating: Summary: Excellent writer! Dull book! Review: For some reason or other this book is just boring. The storyline is okay but some of the battle scenes are just plainly stupid. One warrior defeating three mechs out of six pulease! However I am looking forward to Thurston's next book. Bernard Wong is the ape swinging in the urban jungle!
Rating: Summary: didn't read it yet Review: from all your reviews i think this a good book.i hope it is.:)
Rating: Summary: clan based stories don't always make good reading Review: I have enjoyed the series but the Clan culture is so far removed from our own it makes it difficult to like them or to sympathize with the Characters I think it is best to leave them as enemies and not try and make a story out of an entire clannish setting. The book does well act as a information source about the current state of affairs in Clan Space but I still can't say I like the characters
Rating: Summary: Just a horrible, horrible book Review: I struggled through the previous offerings in the Twilight of the Clans series from Robert Thurston, mostly because I wanted to be able to complete the series in order. I think even that notion was seriously challenged by this.A one word characterization of the "dramatic" plot-line from this book would be 'silly'. I wouldn't recommend this book to my worst enemy, and I find it difficult to imagine that this book belongs in my battletech library. The combat scenes are embarassingly shoddy in detail and substance. Dialogue is about as forced as a late-night cable movie. I have a hard time deciding which I find more annoying, the complete lack of realism in the characters, or just the complete lack of interesting characteristics in the characters. Fortunately, not much in terms of plot-line is revealed by this particular book. Unless you're a btech fan that must absolutely know every (pathetic) detail, I'd suggest you pass on this book and wait for other more capable authors (will Stackpole please pick up the white courtesy phone).
Rating: Summary: Pure Jade Falcon goodness Review: I've been into BattleTech for some time, but have only recently started up on the novels. I've read a few other Twilight of the Clans books and liked them, but this one was the cream of the crop. Sure, the 'Mech battles are a bit boring, but it was a good book. It is not ridiculous for one warrior to defeat three 'Mechs or the Black Widow, and the Clan culture is very interesting, if a bit alien. Of course, I'm a bit biased, being a Jade Falcon lover in a crowd of Inner Sphere book reviewers. To summarize my thoughts, if you like the Falcons or are neutral, but this book. If you hate them (you freak), stay away.
Rating: Summary: mechwarrior proves her mettle Review: Mechwarrior diana proves her worth to the jade falcons, and the clans in general, as they defend attacks on Khan Marhe's adapt-or-die policies for making the 'falcons great once again by the steel vipers. Of interst is the fate of that darling trueborn, joanna, and diane's mom takes 007's place in the world of intrigue -but she doesn't come with all the special affects... The underlying message remains constant through- out the book, but I will leave that to you to find.
Rating: Summary: Left Hanging... Review: OK... I admidt. I am new to the Battletech books. The Twilight series was the first I ever read. Over all, they were great. It's hard getting used to the different writers doing each book in the series. I share them with my young son, and, some he was allowed to read, some not. (The jury's still out on this one... Too Much "Coupling") The Previous book, The Prince of Havoc was, I agree with other reviewers, a bit rushed -could have been two books easy. The ending was great, leaving me drooling for more -would Victor's love get killed. Would his sister finally get her's. Then came Falcon rising, the last of the 8. I read it. It was great in and of itself. But it was a poor ending to long hours of reading 8 books only to find out that I don't get to even read a word about Victor and his sis. So... Now where do I go. The final point is. I loved this book. But I need to know what happens with all the dangeling's that were left in No. 7. Even Star Wars, Ep 6 ended the story line enough such that, if they never do make movie 7, I will not feel like I'm missing much ...(Sorry about the contractions).
Rating: Summary: Battletech Universe in Trouble Review: Poor performance from Thurston. Some of the intrigue was interesting, but ruined by ridiculous battles where outnumbered and outclassed hero predictably overcomes odds (again and again, book after book). Look forward to return to Legend of the Jade Phenix form (a much better series by Thurston in the same universe)
