Summary: I sometimes wish I had never read this book...
Review: The trilogy ruined me for all other fantasy and still leaves me wanting after every other book I read. I come back to these books at least once a year and, depending upon my mood and the circumstances in my life, I find something new every time. If there is a heaven, it is just like the world McKillip has created here. If you like the trilogy, I recommend Guy Gavriel Kay as a story-teller of the same level - although his prose is less poetic than McKillip. Especially good are Kay's "A Song for Arbonne" and "Tigana." Both authors spin darn good yarns set in worlds that aren't dependent upon the "popular fantasy" motifs - you know - overdone, silly elves, dwarves, and things.

Summary: One of The Best!
Review: This is my favorite series of everthing I have ever read in Fantasy. Patricia weaves a wonderfully interesting and beautiful series of written images and this is her finest work. I have read this book and the two that follow it a dozen times

Summary: It is a thought provoking & entertaining work of fantasy.
Review: When I began this book, everything seemed fairly straightforward. But then strange things started to happen, and I became a little confused until I realized that not everything was as simple as it had seemed. Clues were dropped slowly as they became important to the plot. Characters did not even know themselves what was happening to them or why. There is more to this book than one quick reading will give you. And each reading, as well as each reader, can pull somehting new from the experience. That is not to say that it is too complicated for young readers. They might be able to get even more out of it than some adults will. With beautiful imagery, skillful puns, and intricate characterizations, Ms. McKillip pulls her readers into riddles that have no answer. At least they have no answer yet...

Summary: One of the best books on the market
Review: When I first read this book it was a marvel to me that I never seen much less heard about it. To me this ranks up with Robert Jordan and Tolken. Basically this book is about fate/destiny. How one person is the hope of a race that has died. He is the child of destiny the one marked with three stars on his head. At first the book had a mild interesting story line but as it went along it introduced several new idea's that I'm surprized others didn't copy. Such as Riddle-masters was a sought out profesion, shape shifting into a tree. All in all this has a great mix of adventure, and mystery that leaves you wondering what now through out the book.

Summary: Magnificent!
Review: With only a few words, she takes you to a world filled with magic, interesting characters and a rich background. I've read it four times now, and it still hasn't lost any of its appeal, this is mostly due to the characters, Morgon is not the young-kid-who-has-strange-powers-who-has-to-defeat-an-evil-force. Things are not what they seem, friends turn out to be enemies, enemies are not purely evil, its all there. I do recommend everyone to read this, it will give you dreams you don't want to wake from.

Summary: Classics in the Genre of Fantasy Novels
Review: _The Riddle Master of Hed_ is the first of three inseparable books in the _Riddle of Stars_ trilogy, and cannot be appreciated fully without the others. Lovingly called "the Harpist books" in our family, the trilogy is a classic equal to the works of Tolkien, Lewis, etc. and will hopefully be recognized as such. When I first read the _Riddle Master of Hed_, I was permanently hooked by the third chapter and went through the excruciating wait for the sequels. Since that time, I have had four children and read the entire trilogy to them three times over (punctuated by spurts of Tolkien, Kipling, Bronte, etc.). We unanimously agree that Patricia McKillip is one of the most outstanding authors of our day. Her writing is poetically beautiful, and her flow of words, read silently or aloud, is unique and unmatched by any other author....and 15 years of reading aloud (and 30 years of reading to myself) is sound basis for judgement. I identify with Morgon and am convinced that his journey is one that we all must make. The _Riddle of Stars_ trilogy leaves no reader unchanged; it has the power to transform all who seek the High One as single-mindedly as he. Thank you, Patricia McKillip!
