Rating: Summary: One of the best fantasy/adventure novels ever! Review: Quick and simple: I have read this book over and over again since first buying it at the local bookstore over ten years ago, and it still remains enjoyable to read yet again. The characters are realistic and believable as they interact with their new-found world. Behind the surreal fantasy however lies a social commentary on how our world is and was, and the growth of the characters in maturity and understanding of life as the story progresses is inspiring
Rating: Summary: An interesting, fun book. Review: This book is a lot of fun, particuarly for anyone who enjoys role-playing games. The descriptions are vivid, and the actions of the characters are realistic. I can't wait to read the next book, and it wouldn't bother me much if the same thing happened to me.
Rating: Summary: When is the movie coming out? Review: This is a non stop book. A few average everyday college kids playing a game, very much like Dungeons & Dragons, are thrust into the actual game fighting for their lives and their sanity with no shortage of suprises.... no pizza and Coke...oh yeah, and no way back home??? This entire story is great, the concept alone blew me away. Most books I read are traded away at a used book store or sent to the recycle bin, but not this one. I gave away my paperback copies and bought the hardback. This book is one of my all time favorites.
Rating: Summary: Guardians of The Flame #01:Sleeping Dragon Review: This was the first book that I picked up in an omnibus form from the SciFi book club way back in the early 80's..it sat on a shelf for a few months until I picked it up and entered a fabulous world of my favorite fantasy: becoming my roleplaying character! This fascinating book has some of the most colorful characters of all fantasy: Ellegon the wise cracking Dragon; Ahria Bandylegs, formerly a victim of Cerebral Palsy, now a powerful Dwarven fighter; Walter Slovotskey a handsome, develishly clever thief, and Karl Cullinane, the warrior himself. Pick this book up for no other reason than to read the witty, often irreverant banter between characters and to find out the secret; that the flame burns deep inside us all, and we either choose to ignore it or to let it totally engulf us. My copy is dog eared and well worn, lovingly taped and retaped....let your's be too.....

Rating: Summary: A quick look back Review: Well, so here I was, working on the ninth Guardians book (the eighth, Not Exactly The Three Musketeers, will be published by TOR in February), and I had to take a look at a copy of The Sleeping Dragon, the first one, for a minor detail . . . . . . and on the radio comes a selection from The Eagles' Hell Freezes Over album: "Take it Easy," with either Don Henley or Glen Frey saying, just before they start playing, "And here's where it all began..." Well, yeah.
Rating: Summary: Captivating book Review: When you pick up any of the Guardians of the Flame books, you'll not want to put them down. Joel has really done a spectacular job in the writing of these books, ESPECIALLY this one! Want a good book? Get this one!

Rating: Summary: One of the Greatest Fantasy Books Ever Written Review: While someone else here has read this book TWICE, I have read it at least TWENTY times. It is fairly short as fantasy novels go, but packs an immense punch. Rosenberg does not fool around; he does not provide his readers with needless information about the trees or birds of his fantasy world. "The Sleeping Dragon" is instead about character development and motivation. Rosenberg's characters are vivid, lively, and life-like. Every time I read "The Sleeping Dragon" (probably the best of the series) I enjoy it more and more. In no other series that I have read, have the characters occupied my mind and excited my imagination to such a degree. After ten years of reading the series, James/Ahira is real. Karl's relationship with Andy is real. Thank you, Joel Rosenberg for such a treat. By the way, I no longer have my copy, as a friend I loaned it to, let another friend borrow it.
