Rating: Summary: Joel goes *wham* putting Earthly thoughts into Fantasy world Review: I can just agree with the main part of the readers here. This is fantasy at its best, and it is NOT containing neither dragons nor sorcery in the stereotyphical way we are used to. It is a great feeling to identify yourself with the characters, only to discover a new world of Swords&Sorcery together with them, and still see it through eyes that feel real! Read it!!!
Rating: Summary: This book had me staying up late and turning the pages... Review: I have dreamed of being swept up in role playing adventures many times, but none of my dreams could have matched what Joel Rosenberg did in his book, The Sleeping Dragon. This book put his heroes and heroines through real and life-like adventures that kept me turning the pages in anticipation. I loved the realistic outlook, that dwelt more with emotions and moral values, than the hack and slash that other adventure stories rely on. This is a great read
Rating: Summary: The best beginning of a fantasy series EVER!!! Review: I have read this book numerous times. I love everything about it . . . it changed the way I look at life . . . and gave me a hope that I have never had before.
Rating: Summary: The Sleeping Dragon Review: I must say I originally only started this book because I had nothing better to read. BUT once I picked this book up, I was eager to find out what happened next! And that is one of the best traits to have in a book, characters that you can get into. If you like Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and the AD&D type of setting, be sure to check out The Guardians of the Flame. And more specifically the Sleeping Dragon, all by Joel Rosenberg!
Rating: Summary: Instant classic Review: I never had the patience to play role-playing games. This book satisfied my desire to play the game without having to learn all the rules even as it made my heart ache for the characters' need to escape into fantasy realms where they were brave, strong, beautiful, magical, and *needed* by the world at large. Joel Rosenberg takes the great *what-if-it-was-a-magical-gateway* question and shows that even in a fantasy world, there are limitations with what one can do. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll write down the Laws. Most of all, you won't forget this one.
Rating: Summary: A Favorite! Review: I read this book the first time 13 years ago and I still enjoy going back and re-reading it! I feel as if I've grown up with the characters... I think I've used several of Walter's laws through-out my life (for better or worse!). I've always enjoyed Rosenbergs use of quotes at the beginning of each book and chapter! I great read over all!
Rating: Summary: Rosenberg Starts his Six Book Series Well Review: I remember when I first got this series last year at a used book store. I was always interested in a series of short novels. When I first picked up this book I wasn't sure because of its length but found out that this series is very worthy of being a fantasy best. Being trapped in the game world in which they were playing to having their best friends die in front of their eyes this story of mystery and fantasy is definitely a worthy start to a great series
Rating: Summary: Just the most fabulous book I've ever read... Review: I thank Mr. Joel Rosenberg for having written this wonderous book. Out of the Guardians books, definitely my favourite! It was just a regular night of gaming at the Student Union, with Doc Deighton, Karl Cullinane, Walter Slovotsky, Jason Parker, Lou Ricetti, Doria Perlstein, James Michael Finnegan and newcomer Andrea Andropolous. Until Lotana opened the first box... ...and Ahira found himself on the hillside outside the town of Lundeyll. Rosenberg transports us to the various places that the characters go, from the Student Union to Bremon and to the Tabernacle of the Healing Hand Society. Along the way, we are treated to some wonderful glimpses inside the heads of the characters. For example, Karl will refuse to own people and James Michael will refuse to be helpless ever again. This book is a magical place, where modern life collides with dragons, magic and very real danger. Read it. You won't regret it.
