Rating: Summary: As great as Gatsby Review: Well,I am just a lithuanian student(this year I began to study english),who had to read it at university. At first it seemed boring and with a simple plot, but now I am happy I have read it.It shows the society of the Jazz Age and for me,europien girl,it`s a great possibility to learn about that past.I tried to read it lithuanian, but it was not so good. You really need to read this book in original. I will offer this book to my friends too.
Rating: Summary: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Review: Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring! Boring!
Rating: Summary: This book is truly awful. Review: DEADLY boring. I would have given it zero stars, but I guess one star is as low as you can go.
Rating: Summary: such a wonderful portrayal of the Jazz Age! Review: this is such a great book! it brought out the flapper in me that i hardly knew existed! Now, mostly because of this book, i am obsessed with the twenties! fitzgerald has a such a wonderful style of writing, i fell in love with him instantly. Also, I know a lot of people didn't enjoy the movie so much, but i just thought it was the bee's knees! i may just be a tad bias though, because i am in love with mia farrow. she is gorgeous! she was so perfect for the part of daisy. well, anyway, a lot of people may not like this book simply because they are required to read it for school, but honestly, it was chosen for a reason! its superb!
Rating: Summary: Gatsby is nothing but concise! Review: I can only attempt to redeem the view many earlier readers on this board held of The Great Gatsby. This book is a classic and has been so well loved for so long by most types of people because it's so very easy to read. Fitzgerald has quite a lucid prose style; he's not a minimalist like his friend Hemingway but he keeps his writing concise. Gatsby can be read very easily by the skilled reader; I'm fifteen years old- I read the book first when I was fourteen- and have read the book five times since then, sometimes in a matter of hours. If you want to read a book that's hard to get through, pick up D. H. Lawrence and Kafka (who are both masters of writing in their own right). It kind of makes me sad to see how illiterate many of my peers are- I'm not sure if it's our generation or just the adolescent's innate desire to COMPLAIN constantly. But Gatsby is a work of art because of the way Fitzgerald turns the lives of these shallow people into an art form that flows easily into the reader's subconsious.
Rating: Summary: F.Scott knows too well about the corrupted American Drea Review: This book interestingly enough tied right into F.Scott's real life story with his wife Zelda. He does such a great job explaining his version of the American dream, or nightmare if you will. His depiction of the roaring 20's and materialism left me a great catharsis of anger but also of sympathy towards Jay Gatsby. The whole novel ties into one idea and never leaves it for one moment. Even the words F.Scott used were "full of money" This book is almost like a commentary on the american people of that era and also the American Dream deferred. Great book, one of Fitzgerald's best.
Rating: Summary: chunky Review: What a work of art, wow! I lived in a different world as I feasted my eyes upon what appeared as typed, structured sentences, but seemed like poetry to my sensitive and fragile heart. This is definitely something I needed to read. You need to just let go of your sugar lump of the past and move on to a delicious slice of pie.
Rating: Summary: The great gatsby is about love , money , loss Review: The book is narrated through one mans vision (nick carraway) who himself is involved in the action of the book. Gatsby the American dream falls in love with his long lost love and tries to get her back anyway he can. Daisey the girl Gatsby loves, is married to a materialistic husband ,Tom . In the end ,this book shows you that no matter how much money you have ,reality can still make life not so great after all. This book is intresting ,because one mans idea of the American dream is soon then doomed by materialistic things. Gatsby thought by having a lavish life can bring many wonders and could attract his only love.later he relizes that he was wrong. However this is a great book because it's written very well and I recommend it.
Rating: Summary: excellent! i'm glad i read it Review: i read this book for english 10, and i gotta say, it immediately became one of my favorites. it's one of the only "great american classics" i've ever read and actually loved. the story was so relevant and the characters were so real, and the descriptions were amazing. i really understood the book (thanks in part to my teacher who loves it to death and was good enough to explain every little thing in detail) and it was very accurate. i could go on and on but i'mnot the best review writer, so i'll leave it at this: read this book, you will not regret it.
Rating: Summary: Good Book, Beautifully Written Review: The book wasn't the best I've ever read, but I did enjoy F. Scott Fitzgerald's style of writting. It's the subtility and symbolisim that make this book a worthwhile read. Though, I felt it was slow and prodding at points, which may turn some people off.
