Rating: Summary: A fun read. Review: This is the second book of a new series of Star Trek books, focusing on the "Starfleet Corps of Engineers", the folks who get called in when a tech problem stumps the starship engineers on the scene. It is in some ways better than the first book of the series (for instance, it does not leave off on a "to be continued" cliffhanger the way the first book did) but not quite as good in other ways (the continuity between the stories wasn't as good, for one thing, and there seemed to be less focus on the science of the stories, which seemed to be one of the strengths of the series in the first book) so on balance, I'd have to say it was about even. Which is pretty darned good, if not great. One caveat: given that the book opens in mid-story (since, as mentioned, the first book ended that way) it is not recommended that one read this book if one hasn't read that one.
