Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: A Very Good Book, great story line and lots of actio
Rating: Summary: and i still found it amusing... Review: Every time the story starts to get slow, another monster (the weirder the better) appears to feed the swords of the heroes. .. Oh no! a 7 armed gruglawathshl!! The story is weak and does not make a lot of sense, characters are shallow, the style is abysmal. The world of dark sun is great, of course, mainly because it is totally different from any tolkienesque setting. And i still enjoyed the book because it lets you put your brain aside, plus it contains a few (unintended) laughters.
Rating: Summary: I don't care what anyone says, this was a great book! Review: I loved this book because it was so strikingly DIFFERENT. It entirely rivetted me. I must've been around twelve at the time, and I read it all in one massive sitting from noon to three in the morning. The rest of the series (except for The Amber Enchantress) wasn't quite as good, I fear, but this one was wonderful.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I read these many years ago and am about to order them so I can read them again. They were all so good. Couldn't put them down. I've never been able to understand why Icewind Dale and Salvatore get all the attention. These 5 books put anything Salvatore has ever written to shame. An excellent read.
Rating: Summary: I don't care what anyone says, this was a great book! Review: I think some of the reviews here are simply un-called for. I've been reading (and re-reading) the Prism Pentad series for several years now. I think that whole story line of this book helps create an arch for the rest of the series. I just hope they make it into a movie someday.
Rating: Summary: [not that good]! Review: This is a fun series. I know this is TSR but I don't think of Dungeons & Dragons when I read this series. The barren, dune swept world of Athas is creepy, violent and populated by great hybrid's of races from the D&D worlds - Muls (human/dwarf hybrids), half - giants and very very nasty and deadly halfings. I'm currently up to the 4th book in the series (obsidian Oracle). The first 3 are great. Too soon to judge this fourth book. Enjoy! john

Rating: Summary: Poor Excuse for Even a TSR Novel Review: This is a stylistically brutal novel with a weak story line that not even Denning's mother could love. Denning is obviously overly dependent on his thesaurus and at points seems to use adjectives gleaned from it without bothering to know their definitions. Aside from numerous spelling and homophonic errors, (which *might* be blamed on typesetting) he also manages to use intransitive verbs transitively, all of which any decent editor should have caught. The characterization in this book is about as rich a bowl of Ramen noodles- minus the flavor packet. The plot is so shallow, I can only wonder what audience Denning imagined this 'work' was intended for- I doubt that even the most brain damaged of fantasy readers can endure his ham fisted moralising: slavery is bad; freedom is good. Denning relys so heavily on the 'class strife' stereotype he even inadverdently contradicts himself at times. I have seen episodes of the cartoon 'The Masters of the Universe' that have dealt with these same issues with more depth and mastery. This book is truly a low point in TSR's already mediocre publishing history. I bought this book for $.99 at a Goodwill Thrift store and read it in a day. Even so, I felt like I got ripped off. I haven't read any other books this author has written, but next time I'm desperate for something to read I'm not paying more than a quarter.
