Rating: Summary: The Catswold Portal - Right with the rest. Review: "The Catswod Portal" is a wonderful book in many ways, but has an inexperienced feeling to it. Now, I am not commenting on Shirley Rousseau Murphy's writing ability, just her inexperince (of course my writing ability is probably much less than her's). I am giving it four stars for originality and the experince that is in it. I really can not comment on her writing otherwise, being as I have never read any of her other books, meant for young-adult or children. (I myself, read young-adult or adult.)
Rating: Summary: An excellent adventure book with a feminine role. Really? Review: In this book the author weaves a beautiful and riviting tale of a young girl who is, unknown to herself, a queen of a magical race of creatures called Catswold. The story follows the adventure she undertakes to find out the story of her childhood and proud heritage.
I seriouly enjoyed this book. It is, however, a more adult book or young adult book then the title might indicate. The premise of this book is highly original and all and all a book well worth your time. It's rare that a books can double as an adventure book and a romance story and still keep integrity and a moving story line.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful mix of of fantasy, mystery and intrigue Review: Catswold Portal is a wonderful book for both fantasy lovers and cat lovers alike. The main character is a female named Melissa with the power to change into a cat. As the story progresses, Melissa must work to face her fears, find her loves, and live her dreams. Everything imaginable is included in this fantastical fantacy: love, betrayal, humor, fear, passion, revenge, loyalty, trust, deseption, friendship, and the ever-present impossible dream - to find yourself.
Rating: Summary: Incredible book! Review: Catswold Portal is one of my all-time favorites! I share an uncanny amount of similarities to the main character--not the least of which being green eyes, streaky-blonde hair, the same first name and an unnatural affinity for cats. I read this when I was sixteen and was totally hooked. There are a few snags that seem a slight bit predictable or over-used, perhaps the 50's setting is hard to believe, but nevertheless, if you suspend disbelief, this book will take you on a fantasy ride you'll never forget.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but lacking... Review: I did enjoy reading this book, and I did have a hard time putting it down, but there were a few things that bugged me. I was surprised when I read the setting was in the 50's. It appears to be a very 90's book, and the 50's setting wasn't very important to the plot. Also, there were plot twists in the making that were dropped, like Melissa's baby/kitten, and the dragon. Much more could have come from both, but turned out to be very minor. Lastly, and I know I'm getting nitpicky here, but it bugs me just the same, there's mention of gold mines in Coloma. I've been there, and let me tell you, there are no mines there. However, this is a good book to read anyways, especially if you're bored, like I was when I picked it up.
Rating: Summary: Incredible book! Review: I found this book to be exceptionally original. As a reader of SciFi Fantasy for over 25 years I can say that this one is a keeper.. ( I have just finished it for a 3rd time) The only problem I have is finding out if there are anymore books about the Catswold and the Netherworld, if not Ms Murphy should sit down and start writing them. So many of her books are also out of print. I can only say I will be heading for the library.

Rating: Summary: This book was fabulous Review: I really enjoyed this book. I've always been a huge fantasy lover. This book is right up there on my list of favorites. I do think it would have been absolutly perfect if there hadn't been such strong discriptions of sex. Other than that, this book is terrific!!!!My favorite character is Melissa because of her gentleness, strong willed heart, and her bravery when facing the evil Queen Siddone. I give this book two thumbs up!!!!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful for any cat lover to read ! Review: I really like to read about cats who are like humans...because my cats act the same way! This was a cute and moving story.
