Rating: Summary: Better then what the last five books of Left Behind Series Review: I will agree that the character development had something to be desired. At least the book could stand on its own. Lately the only good parts to the LB series have been the beginning to reconcile the cliff hanger from the previous book and a new cliff hanger to wait for in the next book.I would like the next book to be a little more advanced.
Rating: Summary: Not a bad adventure novel Review: I've read some of the negative reviews for this book, and I am at a lack for understanding their merit. I read this book much like would watch an Indiana Jones movie. Adventure novels are supposed to stretch credulity a little bit, that's what makes them fun to read. If I wanted reality, I'd read a NON-FICTION book.
I thought the book accomplished its main goals of a page-turning suspense adventure. It was hard for me to put the book down. The characters evoked the proper emotions (i.e., you liked the heros and disliked the villians). From a Biblical standpoint, the book was also to my liking. I subscribe to a pre-trib rapture and a pre-mill return of Christ, so this book's eschatology didn't bother me. I even liked the "flashback" scenes to Daniel and Nebuchadnezer.
The only drawback was that the characters were a little two-dimensional. Not enough character development. I am currently reading the second book in this series, and it seems that they are taking care of the character development issues.
Rating: Summary: Dissappointment Rising Review: I've read the Left Behind series. In that series Lahaye provides the biblical backup to a good writer, it's a great series. When I saw a new title with him behind it, I was intrigued and interested in what he had to offer with this new series. I had my first reservations when the back cover of the book tells of how Lahaye is excited about this book, about how it's faster paced and all that jazz. Basically, this book Sucks. He tries to make it quick, gripping, exciting - any number of superlatives. At the heart is a truly dissappointing effort. He's created a biblical Indiana Jones, without the panache. I kept waiting for the good story to come out, but it never did. This is fast-reading, simple-reading, naval-lint fiction that left me wishing I had never cracked it, because I can't get those hours back! If you enjoyed Left Behind, leave this book behind and keep that good memory intact.
Rating: Summary: Can I get a refund? Review: If the authors spent less time engaged in bible-thumping, in-your-face evangelism...... they might've had a mediocre story. Instead, woodenly clumsy characters are used to deliver a literalist view of the Christian Bible..... making for an annoyingly shallow read.
Rating: Summary: Babylon Falling Review: Like many I picked this book up thinking that the quality would be on par with the left behind series. Boy are we all disappointed! It could have been a very good book had it not been so poorly written. I forced myself to finish but my husband couldn't even do that. Major flop.
Rating: Summary: Awful! Review: Maybe I expected more from this - after the cheesy writing style of the "Left Behind" series (I could barely get through the first book!) I guess maybe I thought his writing had improved. Nope. The dialogue was trite and ridiculous. The situations way beyond believability - way too pat the way things just happened to fall into the protagonist lap. Very implausible. I can't believe I actually finished the book - I kept thinking that it would get better. Oh well. Waste of my money!

Rating: Summary: Can I give it zero stars? Review: Okay. Please someone who liked this book tell me what LaHaye was thinking? Tell me what the publishers were thinking to buy this thing. This has got to be the worst book I've read in quite some time and, with the number of books I put away, that's saying something. I can't think of where to begin. The bad guys are so cliched in their speech and machinations. "Talon" is so one dimensional he makes the letters on the page look well-rounded. The lectures LaHaye gives the reader via Michael Murphy are laughable. I've been on Easter egg hunts more difficult than Murphy's "archeological digs" (come on he finds the first thing in less than a day of looking?!?!?). I won't go on. Really. There is a lot wrong with this book--poor editing, bad dialogue, trite situations. I usually do not rant like this about a bad book but good grief. People are actually reading this drivel (and The Da Vinci Code which is just as badly written) and taking their theological and eschatological viewpoints from it!!!! The least he could do is at least try to write as good a novel as the first Left Behind book (they went downhill fast, IMO, and please don't get me started on them.) For the record, I am a Christian and have no problem with good Christian fiction. There is a lot of it out there. This isn't it.
Rating: Summary: Don't read this book Review: Okay...I started reading this book, because I'm a fan of the genre. Within the first 5 chapters, this book angered me so completely, I nearly threw it out the window.
Professor Michael Murphy is a wannabe-Indiana Jones, who doesn't quite pull it off.
A prominent archeologist, who obviously knows nothing about archeolgy - during his search for the Brazen Serpent, he completely destroyed the integrity of an archeological site. (The cave where he finds the Tail, for those who've had the misfortune of reading the book, or for those who intend to do so)
During the same scene, he supposedly grabs the barrel of an AK-47, while it's "spitting dozens of rounds per minute".
I'm a private in the U.S. Army. I've never fired an AK-47, but I HAVE fired an M-16. The barrel of both weapons is metal. While firing on automatic, the barrel of the M-16 gets hot enough to burn your hand through a leather glove. (I know that through personal stupidity.) There is NO WAY Micheal Murphy could have grabbed the barrel of a firing AK-47 with his bare hand. Sorry, it's just not plausible.
And, as I said - that's at the very beginning of the book.
I'm tempted to write a letter to Tim Lahaye, and suggest that he research his facts a little more thoroughly before attempting to write another book.
I'm a 22 year old private with a high school diploma, and I saw holes in his story big enough to drive an 18-wheeler through. Imagine the frustration someone with a little more education would feel.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful continuation of Left Behind Review: Once I reached the conclusion of The Glorious Appearing, I thought that the story was over. I was glad to see that Dr. LaHaye continues to keep our libraries growing. I have had the pleasure of reading both this book and Secret on Ararat, I can't wait for the next volume.
Thanks again Dr. LaHaye!
